I hate abuse of any kind to humans or animals. I dislike judgmental people and people who are generally unkind, inconsiderate and have problems understanding the issues faced by others. I hate snakes!!! Cringe if I smell TCP!! and I cannot bare garlic!!
Hi Peeps,

I'm a little confused about the figures and would love some opinions and advice please.

Yesterday morning on waking I was at 7.9 I did a little experiment as I wanted to see what eating bread does to my figures so I ate 2 slices wholemeal bread, 2 hours later I had risen to 9.8

For dinner, I fried some pigs liver and fried some mushrooms, I had gravy too. 2 hours later and I'm down to 5.5

This morning on waking I'm up again to 7.4 ?

Am I having liver dumps?

i think in the morning, everyone has liver dumps, its just for diabetics, mainly type 1s, the effects of it are more noticeable...

as well as glucose from the liver in the morning, there are hormones released which make us more resistant to either our own or our injected/pumped insulin, so this also contributes to higher readings....

your dinner of liver, mushrooms and gravy would not have many carbs it, so the 5.5 would be normal.........

are you eating before bed/

HiAA,

Anyone eating two slices of toast would expect to see a rise in the readings as you have nothing to offset the carbs.. Try one slice and add some protein and fat to it and you should see a difference. Try cheese on toast, egg on well buttered toast, haddock/kippers with bread and butter, one slice, and readings should be lower. You could add some mushrooms to a suitable dish.

The dawn phenomenon can affect some people badly and their fasting levels are always higher than they would like.

Well done for experimenting and I hope the more you try then the easier it will become to understand. We have all been where you are now and know the feelings of frustration when things do not go according to plan. The more food groups you incorporate in a meal, the lower the reading.

I only eat before bed if my levels are below 4, I don't know if that's the correct thing to do really, but since my hypo, which happened at night, I'm now frightened of going to bed with low levels.

Thank you Catherine, I shall have a good read of the link you've shared. Thank you for your guidance on what to eat too, I find it really helpful at this time when I still feel like I'm stabbing around in the dark a bit!

Maybe discuss with GP about reducing your Met, you're on quite a lot.

I still like to have an occasional small slice of toast with my egg(s) in the morning. I usually try and burn off some of the spike by exercising (rowing machine in my case but walking up stairs will do) for about 10 minutes an hour later.

That's the main reason people eat at bed, 4 is on the low side so a few carbs wouldn't hurt.............I am fortunate enough to be trusting of my body and can assume it will behave correctly....

it is likely the rise in bg is your liver going by that..........

maybe try eating some peanut butter or something similar that will go on digesting through the night and in to the morning, which will tell your liver there is fuel burning and its help is unwanted....:)

Thank you all so much for your advice, I shall take it on board and try it. :)

@dawnmc I've got to have my diabetes bloods done as the GP wants to see the overall picture and then we're going to discuss what's the best way to go.
