Thanks DUK. One of your inept call-centre staff who have been trying to contact my 19 year old daughter, who was diagnosed type1 at the age of 8, to tell her theres a vaccination to prevent Type 1 diabetes. Thanks a ******* bunch you half witted morons. As if her recent complications and the lifestyle shes had imposed on her by the disease isnt enough some twatty moron phones her up and rubs it in her face. Youve had your last penny from me and I shall do all in my power to let people know how **** you are. Daughter distraught - sister distraught - parents distraught and angry. You useless money making s***s. Expect a positive response tomorrow when your useless phonelines open!

Umm, you do know this is not the DUK forum ? (Different Diabetes org )

All the same, I'm saddened that your daughter had that call, and that it caused so much upset (understandably, IMHO). Have you thought about a written complaint to Diabetes UK ?

Well it was a good raging rant I thought.
All the best mate to you and your little 'un.
Go get 'em.

Sorry you seem to have had such a terrible experience with another diabetes organisation.
Serendipity perhaps? I say this because I am confident that if you interact with forum users here you will have positive experience and support.
Best wishes to you and your daughter.

Sometimes you just cant blame people for making mistakes. I thought he/she was rather controlled.

Yes, it's not the first time I have seen people confusing Diabetes UK and us lovely people here

I have to say, I really dislike cold calling from charities or anyone, come to that  You have no idea how dreary it is to have a call that's trying to sell you sheep worming treatments getting you out of the bath!

Seriously, we had a load of problems with this following a death in the family, the phone calls just seem so inappropriate  It's not the fault of the person making the call, it's a grotty job they have to do to make money, but I do think that charities should not make calls like this at all. If people choose to give, they will, in their own time, and to a charity of their choice . I've known pensioners get very stressed by such calls, they feel guilty for saying no, so give what they can't really afford, and I think that's true for many people.

Hello all , this appears to be the site the OP is talking about and not associated with our forum.

Yes I agree with Pipp, stay around here for a bit, there are lots of clever T 1's here (not me I'm an unclever T2) Your daughter might find some friends amongst the T1 young people here too. It's worth a try....you could all gain something out of this horrid phone call....now the possibility of something good coming from a bad experience ...that has to be worth waiting around for?

You should request for that company to investigate all recorded phone calls relating to your daughter. (most call center phone calls are recorded)
They have a responsibility to ensure the appropriate action is taken with their staff in these matters.
The last thing you want is for this to happen to other Diabetics.

I am sorry that you and your family had such a bad experience.

It's OK, @disgusted with DUK . People on this forum are very forgiving. I know because I think I frequently 'put my foot in it', albeit unintentionally. (Sorry if I have upset anyone).
I urge you to keep checking us out. This really is the most supportive and informative forum.

I'm so sorry you and your family have been subject to this stress.

Give 'em Hell.

I doubt they will be back. Hope I'm wrong though.

Yeah well..it's embarrasing , sorta like phoning the Tax Man and giving them 10 minutes of sheer donottakeabreathtopause hell, then finding an abashed little voice telling you you are through to Samaritans by mistake

Come back - We have a sense of humour, we luuuuurve a full on whinge and rant, , hell, I believe there is a Trophy Stash for the good 'uns !:D

There's no such vaccination to prevent type 1 diabetes and I expect the phone call was a hoax, so there's no need for the opening post to remain with the offensive language IMHO.

Hmm....strangely I missed the offensive language and just identified with the well expressed emotion of the OP.

I'm a diabetic. I stab myself in the finger repeatedly and contemplate the loss of my feet.
A few typed words that aren't aimed at me aren't going to offend me.

I had just finished reading the news report that only 1 in 5 newly diagnosed diabetics have the conditioned under control, I then saw this thread next. In a way I am heartened that someone stressed and upset was pointed towards this forum first it was key to me being able get my condition under control after diagnosis. Lets hope it stays at the top of whatever search brought the OP here.
