Chromium: Am I wasting my time?

Hi. I've read that Chromium Picolinate may have some harmful side effects but know little about it overall. The best first level treatment is a low-carb diet. Metformin may help a bit if overweight but diet remains the main focus. If you are already slim then let us know.

  • What was on the menu today?
  • When did you test, related to those meals and what numbers did you see?
 
my multivitamin contains chromium and has a warning against consumption by diabetics injecting insulin as it increases sensitivity. I'd have thought that a good reason to take it.

Unfortunately I keep forgetting.
 
Time to look at how many carbs are in your diet, and eat to your meter

If it was any good a drug co would have it in a tablet and make mega bucks

There is lots of stuff the body needs in trace amounts to function properly and I don't diminish its importance.

Thing is, those trace amounts for normal people may become more important when something else is not working, and may be needed in greater quantities.

Take anaemia as an example, most anaemic people are given iron, but what very few doctors also do is to check B-Vit levels, in particular B-12 and supplement that. Iron cannot be effectively absorbed with low B12 levels. Other vitamins interact similarly, high levels of B6 have been used as an effective seizure treatment for example at much higher than the dietary level, so who knows what the interaction between metformin and chromium is. But if it's avaiilable as a cheap supplement in a multivit, why not give it a go is my view.
 
But I'm on 1500 met and as you said it may be a drug interaction.
Has anyone done a trial on it yet? Something that's good for you in trace amounts, may cause problems in larger amounts. More may not be better
 
Hello to all, I did try the Chromium Picolinate in the early days when I was just on metformin, and I found that my bs levels went down, and I thought it was a good development for me. I read about the Chromium Picolinate in an article from the Healthy magazine from Holland and Barratt, which I still have, and later when I was put on Gliclizide by the hospital specialist it did not work the way it had done for me. We all find things that help us for a time, never stop looking for the best help we can all get, to keep this condition under control for each of us, ttfn
