Turns out my father is diabetic

Just had a quick look at the photo album, and nope! No dark circles. We all have three eyes though, think that could be an indicator ? :D

Seiously, though, I haven't cross checked all of them, just a random selection, but we do all have a certain puffiness below the eyes. It's not a family characteristic like big noses, it is most marked in the Type 1's I've looked at so far . Intriguing !

You may well be right though @Brunneria, as most of us do have other auto immune issues, ranging from eczema to MS

It is only a therory through an observation.. It is a slight puffiness in the younger Ds as opposed to dark bags with ageing...
It occurred to me during a discussion with my wife a while back. & have noticed it with my niece. (A non D.)
Though I would never mention this to my sister on this "observational therory", I have informed her on the symptoms from a hireditory angle..
The kid is about 7 years old..

On that, I have no idea.. But I've kind of noticed it in both genders..

Some people with wheat intolerance get puffy eyes (and sometimes fingers) , particularly in the morning.

Goodness, I think I got that lovely factoid from another of the endless parade of alternative health practitioners... What varied formative influences we all have, eh?

Interesting...

When I was in my early teens I was at school for a while with a girl who was diabetic - the one thing I remember about her being the only diabetic I knew until recently was that she was pale and slightly puffy faced.

Not to put a spoiler in this conversation. But I have seen a lot of kids with shadows or puffy eyes. These were malnourished. Not had a balanced diet and probably missing vitamins etc.
Not saying that the kids you know are as you state. Just an observation of my growing up in poverty!

Anyone heard the theory that people prone to diabetes have a line on their ear lobe?

I have such a line, but can hardly draw a conclusion from that!

& a fair comment too.. I was looking for something to "level my head" on this idea..

Nope, but I do have a short "life line" on my hand, but I don't hold with that hokum...
To be on the safe side, I do try & cram as much fun in as I can though.. ;)

You do sometimes need to go with a theory and except its conclusions. Nowt wrong with thinking outside the box!
