Oh you poor thing. Stay strong ;)

Thanks Av, had a much better dinner and pre bf BG of 6.6, my excuse is I'm out of my comfort zone but the reality is there is no sprite zero over here and getting bored of water, but last two times I've had fizzy drinks I've fallen asleep within an hour.

2 years ago I could tolerate being high for longer periods / spikes but since keeping my BG at a relative steady low and low carbing anything above 8 really is noticeable, a good thing I'm sure, and the only good side of being back home will be to get back into a good regime again ( I need to finish my book primal blueprint also!! )

Bf peanut butter on toast

Lunch big bowl of salad with qualls egg and cheese

Dinner stir fried beef with black pepper and veg
2 sq 99% choc

Pre lunch and dinner BG mid 5s so happy again :)

I need insulin just because I got out of bed (about 3 units) but I don't eat eggs for breakfast so couldn't say.

If I have scrambled eggs for lunch, which I make with cream and butter, then I will need 2 units novorapid but delayed by a couple of hours. If I eat fried eggs and bacon for lunch then I don't need to bolus. I'm starting to wonder if it's a dairy issue for me.
hmmm, I was thinking maybe its the fat from the bacon but then you get just as much fat from butter and cream. For breakfast I had 2 eggs scrambled in a non stick pan no fat no milk etc and i had them with some rocket salad and some olives. An hour after my sugars were 12.5 so took the correction dose my pump calculated for me. For lunch i had 50g of tuna with cucumber and feta and olive salad and sugars shot up to 15.8 an hour after as I didnt know what insulin to take, I have corrected it with the amount the pump has instructed me to do.

So far low carbing......I'm hungry and keep thinking of carbs! How the heck do u lot do this permenantly, I'm struggling with a day!!

What should I have for dinner? Any ideas and how much insulin to take with it?

Thanks so much for the replies!

Lizzie, are you eating enough fat? Do you use anything like myfitnesspal to keep a record of your carbs, protein and fat intake? To begin with I worked out boluses from total carbs and 50% of protein which seemed to get me in the right ballpark. You could also count 10% of fat if it's significant.

Hi Robert.

I used to use fitness pal but not used it for a year as got bored of it, but I'll start it again if you think it would help.
I am so stupid with this 50% of protein, I haven't a clue what you mean, sorry :(.

From 3am to 12pm I have the ratio of 1 unit of insulin per 15g carbs, and from 12pm till 3am I have the bog standard ratio of 1 unit of insulin for 10g of carbs, thank god I undderstand that as freaked out I had to do calculations all day when I am proper maths phobic!

Can u explain what the boluses from total carbs and 50% of protein means to a simpleton lol! :)

Thanks again Lizzie

Hi Lizzie - it's like counting carb content at 100% but you count the protein at 50%

Last night's dinner from myfitnesspal:

Dinner-mfp.jpg

My carb ratio is 10g:1u so I took 2u for the carbs, 2u for the protein (half of 42 is 21). I actually took 5u in total because of the fat and I rounded up

I'm carrying on with the juicing experiment with interesting results

Today fasting BM 5.7

B - large glass of pear,Beetroot, cucumber, lettuce, ginger, carrot, watercress and kale juice
Large Gregg's unsweetened latte on the way to work
Mid morning - another glass of the breakfast juice and a handful of hazelnuts
L- egg salad and another glass of the juice
Mid afternoon - mug of tea and a few almonds

BM when I got home - 4.1

Dinner - a plate of veg fried in coconut oil with toatsted sesame seeds
A handful of raspberries out of the garden
15g dark choc
Overall carbs higher than I've had for 2+ years! but BM's exemplary - all very per cultivar

At the weekend I may do a couple of days just juices & veg to see what happens

How much insulin did you take for these meals

Thanks
Lizzie

Hi Lizzie,
I'm quite fortunate that I'm on insuman comb 25 and only have small dose in morning 30 mins before bf & 30 mins before evening meal, I'm literally on small amounts: bf = 4 units, dinner = 14 units, if I stick to a good diet I'm hanging in the 5/6 range but I still like my treats on occasion, this is down from what I started on, pre LCHF was 6 & 20 units.
I have tried stopping insulin and being sensible but BG seems to rise after 3 days so I always go back on it to keep me low.
Sorry probably not much help as I'm not on pump or have to work out my dose to what I eat, I think I would struggle with it also, I guess it's a learning curve, heck I learnt more from here in the last 9 months than I have 9 years from my DB specialists!!

Waking BG 6.7 :(

Breakfast: scrambled egg with cheese and ham
Lunch: 1 mini Babybel (went for a swim at lunch time and got back too late to eat)
Snack: 1 nairn cheese oat cake and cottage cheese
Dinner: chicken curry with sauce made thinner so it was more like a soup and didn't need rice

Breakfast: Whole Earth, no added sugar, crunchy peanut butter, thickly spread on one slice of Hovis seed sensation wholemeal toast.
Lunch: Big mixed salad with red pepper chilli hummus and chicken breast. Two squares of 85% dark chocolate.
Dinner: Ragu Bolognese with wholemeal pasta and parmesan cheese.

Hi there Lizzie :)

No, I no longer snack. I did occasionally when I first started low carb/high fat, and would have an occasional 9 bar perhaps but since I've adjusted, I no longer feel hungry between meals. I usually have 2 or 3 cups of black coffee with cream during the day, which fills me between meals. Very occasionally I'll have a cheese triangle if I'm feeling peckish, which is very rare. I don't take any added sweeteners in drink or added to food, unless I'm stewing some rhubarb.

I don't know what eating plan you are following, but personally I'm not eating "little meals". I eat very well and have good portion sizes, although not enormous. I don't always have a sweet after my main meal, but if I do its the occasional bowl of strawberries and cream or sugar free jelly and cream.

Hope this is helpful.

Diana

Have you tried cauliflower rice? It's obviously not rice, but it gives texture and is a decent "carrier" for sauces. Alternatively, when I wasn't eating rice (since getting skinny, I can eat it again :D), I used to have my curry on a pasta plate, so that it didn't just look like a runny dollop.

How many calories was that today? It doesn't look like many?

This evening I had some rhubarb!!

I know that seems very run of the mill to you guys, but I haven't been able to find any since I got back to UK, until today. Some weeks ago when "everyone" seemed to be eating it, I was quietly drooling on my tropical idyll. It's too warm for it over there, and I thought I had missed the boat when I got back.

I love rhubarb. :hungry:
