Pump !!

Hi and welcome Beautiful, there is a wealth of information here on the forum please feel free to ask any questions, I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction for whatever you want to know.

Welcome from me.........

I am using the Medtronic Paradigm Veo, been using it for a year and a half now........

If your in the process of getting a pump, I think you may actually know already that's it the right thing for you.........as your need for better control outweighs the other issues.......;)

you will soon adapt to it being there and you will not notice it for most of the time..........I personally notice its presence when I am sleeping or bathing/washing.......

you can get tubeless pumps like the omnipod, which may be more suited if you feel it will be an issue........if you have a choice of one, which I understand you may not, you should look into that one...

Hello !! Don't have a choice but like you said my levels are out off control so do need one just have to see how I get on !!!

What was last HbA1c............?

It sounds as though you are being forced to go on the pump, which in my experience is unheard of.

Most folk need to fight for one........;)

Are you currently on a multiple daily injection regime..........? and have you been educated in carb counting/dose adjustment......?

Yes I know everything about carb counting and do it all but I'm very high in the mornings there is a name for it !! And also enjoy my sports which messes me up so think the pump will help me so got to give it ago and hope I never look back !! Ps I'm not being forced lol it is my choice just worrying !!!

The Dawn Phenomenon.......;)....

That's good your not being forced..........I think you will be just fine......just being able to wake up in the morning feeling normal can make a big difference.......temporary basal rates can also help with the extra activity.........

what sport do you do?

I like running , bootcamp , and lots off mud runs which I won't be able to wear the pump due to lots off mud and water !!

as long as the pump can be secured you should be OK.............

the cannula connection is air tight you see..........submersing the pump itself may be an issue as the electronics inside would be effected..........

do these runs involve being submersed for any significant length of time........?

the pump though will change you life, especially as your are so active.....

I don't know everything, I am always learning..........

the difficulty with diabetes for me isn't the lack of knowledge or tactics to keep good control, its the discipline with food and trying to keep active etc, so just the normal struggles non diabetics face too......

for me the pump is brilliant, specifically the basal options and the ease in which is is to adjust the basal too.........basal is basically the most important dose for diabetics and the pump can really fine tune it for you...........I also nearly cut my total insulin doses in half which allowed me to drop a stone without making any effort to.......

a fact I heard form my pump nurse was that approximately 50% of the insulin injected is actually used effectively, with the pump over 90%......this allows for a significant drop in insulin going in........for me this was significant, for yourself maybe not as much as being active already means you will likely be a lot more sensitive to insulin than me and will be on much smaller doses...........pumping never the less still means using the insulin much more efficiently.....

Thanks for getting back to me I feel better already !! I don't know anyone on the pump ! And having diabetes can be a lonely place sometimes !!

Hello yes getting one in September not looking forward to it !!

I'm sure all will be fine. Some great advice by Novo, pumps do change peoples lives for the better and very rarely do we see posts on the forum where people want to give them back. Good luck and hope all goes well!!!!!
