I was diagnosed as Type 2 in February this year.

My 90 day average is around 7, from 28 when diagnosed, so quite a positive result.

When my sugar levels began to normalise, my body took me through a kind of "cold turkey" or False hypo" response. I was surprised my health care professionals hadn't heard of this, and I was left to suffer this for about 2 weeks on my own, very scared and alone.

I eventually bought a meter and testing supplies, and was encouraged to see the minor lifestyle changes made a significant difference to my sugar and weight.

Being a man of a certain age, I experienced prostate problems, and found myself peeing extensively. This wasn't isolated to Prostate, as the kidneys need to flush away excess sugar.

At first I restricted my drinking before bed, then on advice from others I increased again.

With a result that every couple of hours I need to P.

One night, I told myself I wanted to make myself a coffee ... The only thing, I wasn't awake. I actually sleep walked, started making a coffee then, realising what I was doing, I stopped and went back to bed, still sleeping.

I've never experienced anything like this before or since? Is this related to the diabetes?

Not as far as I am aware but the peeing is. You don't need a prostate problem if you have diabetes. My nurse poo poo'ed it and said I should only drink de-caf and all would be well. I looked it up on the net and it's called polyuria and is a symptom of diabetes.

I sleepwalk (it has entertained family, friends and Mr B for years).

Once, way back in my student days I got up, boiled a kettle, made up and ate a pot noodle.
Incredible and terrifying.
Sleepwalker splashing boiling water about.
* Shudder *

Other occasions I have moved furniture, switched off all the electric plug points in the house (including fridge and freezer) and berated Mr B for not understanding what I was sleep-talking about.

Apparently 'it's a wild adventure'.

For me, it seems to be triggered by stress and/or nighttime hypos.

Re the piddling - you can test whether it is caused by diabetes, if you want. The kidneys flush out excess sugar (often if it rises over 10 or 11 for a while), and uses water to do so. Which makes you thirsty, so you drink more, and that means you can pee more... So it's large amounts of pee, and large thirst.

You can get urine testing strips (anyone know the brand name?) to see if there is sugar in your urine.

Re the prostate, I'm afraid I have no experience. Maybe someone else can make suggestions. Is prostate related widdling high volume? Or just normal volume spread across a number of widdles?

HI. As Brunneria says, blood sugar over 10-11 mmol will cause the kidneys to dump glucose and urine sticks should detect this. An enlarged prostate will often cause frequent peeing but so will an oversensitive bladder. I've heard that extra magnesium may help with the bladder bit. As you get older the kidneys are more active at night and the bladder can't hold enough to go thru the night without peeing
