Bit Puzzled

Sure, but based on what, besides imagination?

You would have to make your own mind up there, those are the levels that they want people with diabetes to aim for, whether you do or not is an individual choice.

It is Phoenix, here are the target cholesterol levels that they want people with diabetes to aim for:

  • Your total cholesterol level should be below 4.0mmol/l.
  • LDL levels should be less than 2.0mmol/l.
  • HDL levels should be 1.0mmol/l or above in men and 1.2mmol/l or above in women.
  • Triglyceride levels should be 1.7mmol/l or less.
Thanks, that's useful too. I think these two posts give me an idea of the things I should take into account when deciding about statins.

The Great Protein Controversy remains unresolved ;)

Right, and they also tell us to eat massive amounts of carbs and that eating fat will have a negative impact on our lipids and make us fat.

Just do what you do, no need to make a song & dance about it, the OP was looking for advice on the their cholesterol, hence why I posted the target cholesterol figures for people with diabetes.

Hi Jay..... seems to me you need to focus on increasing your good cholesterol (HDL). This can be done by regular exercise and eating avocado, olive oil or macadamia nuts on a daily basis.

I have to say, however, that I think way too much emphasis is put on cholesterol levels in relation to heart disease. A better indicator of heart disease is via homocysteine levels.http://drbenkim.com/articles-homocysteine.html

My total and LDL cholesterol are always out of range, but my HDL is generally around 1.8. A traditional GP tends to want me to take statins, my integrative GP who thinks outside the square. goes by ratio .. reckons the bad doesn't get a change to stick to the artery wall cos the good comes along behind and sweeps it away.

Anyway, statins can cause diabetes, the leading cause of heart disease - doesn't make much sense to me

Not making a song and dance of anything - just asked a question hoping for a thoughtful response. Guess I won't get one.:arghh:
