Quick One - Insulin life span

Just looking for some quick advice –



Got to work…not enough inulin left for my lunch.



Found a pen in my car with 30u still left in it……….



The insulin doesn’t look cloudy but could have been in my car for 6 months maybe 12…..will it be ok to use?



Can’t get home or to a pharmacy and fancy a nice lunch today J

The recommendation is that insulin has a life of 31 days at ambient temperature below 25C. Unless you have stored the insulin in a refridgerated glove box in your car the insulin would probably have reached high temperatures and thus has become degraded.

It's not worth the risk of injecting useless insulin. Just enjoy a very low carb lunch.

No dont use it. I would do a dash home or learn from this. I keep a 'spare' in the work fridge with my name on. In fact I tape it to the side so no one can move it

Hope you didn't use it Tony, it's time like this where you could use the opportunity to do a basal check, if you've not had lunch then you'll enjoy your meal tonight all the more

I went for it...site was under maintenance, so couldn't see the replies...

I read it doesn't have any side affects, just doesn't work as well...

Any insulin out of date is best not used .
It could have well below par performance or
be unsafe to use .
Always err on the side of own safety with any out of dated insulin(s) used .
You can refer to the manufacturers instructions insulin leaflet
that comes with each batch of insulin .
Alongside the expiry date printed on the side of insulin pen(s) or box .
