i saw the diabetic nurse last week. she,s pleased with my daytime readings but is worried about my morning readings
she spoke to my gp and the surgery rang this morning and gp has prescribed me with a accu chek monitor, test strips and lancets. he will only issue me with 50 lancets and test strips a month and said to only test first thing in the morning

That's a great start, but please, please don't reduce your testing to just mornings. I feel positive your through the day testing will have helped you reducing your scores up until now. Perhaps you can use the Accu check meter in the mornings, then your Codefree at other times? That would be a consistent approach.

When you next see the nurse, I would stress upon her how helpful you have found testing and ask her to support more strips..

I'm really pleased you have had positive feedback from them at least.

Good that your team are listening. 50 strips is 50 less for you to buy!!

They will see that your testing if you write the tests and food and results down that your testing is good for you (and others).

When they see the improvements to your weight and diabetes and general health they will know they were wrong with their initial advice. I hope that you can prove them wrong Ally about testing, continue to do so and that yhey will be big enough to apologise that they were wrong.

You are doing fantastic, so keep it up..

thank you bluetit and donnellysdogs
i will still test before after every meal

More good news ally! Good for you- as the others just said, don't just test in the morning though, you are now used to testing during the day to see what affects you, at least the doctors device and strips will take care of mornings cost wise! Keep going ally!

alliebee, we certainly will get there
my BS 2 hours after tea was 13,9 but i did try pineapple and it spiked my reading

Ah. I haven't tried any canned fruit, since diagnosis. I've always preferred fresh, and been fortunate enough to be able to access it.

It's a real shame, because I think you're probably like me and miss all that delicious fruit. I can eat a bit now, but always fresh and only once in a while, really. Fortunately, when my OH is around, I have someone to share it with, so I'm not tempted to have too much. Whilst I've been back in the UK without my OH, I have only had berries, and rhubarb, because I couldn't trust myself not to wolf down a whole pineapple or belly buster mango, or whatever.

Sadly, it's probably going to be wise to shelve pineapple for a while Ally. Once your numbers are in a lower range, and you've trimmed up a bit, you will possibly be able to reintroduce a few of these things. I know it's hard, but at least now with a meter and some medication and diet that seem to be working for you, you can see your own progress and recognise when there's a blip.

Keep going.

I can't eat canned fruit at all. Only berries. Sadly at the moment I can't even have an apple. Partly because it spikes me and secondly I'm low carbing. I try not to focus on what I can't have (the list is getting longer). But instead enjoy all the lovely foods I can eat...

i,ve collected my new monitor and true to what my gp said, has just given me 50 test strips for the month
so i will order them every month but may store them up so i can collect them up and carry on using my codefree monitor as i have 200 test strips and then use my new ones, then go back onto the new one, that will then save me a bit of money

Look at code dates on strips... Use the ones due to expire first...

thank you for that, the ones i got today run out in 2015 and the codefree also 2015

Good, my codefrees when I had them had quite short expiry dates on compared to the aviva strips. I still carefully sort out my strips in date order when I get them..

thanks for the tip donnellysdog
on the box it just says expirary 2015 so i take it, its the end of 2015
