@ grajo, yes the ship burial at Sutton Hoo.

@ Molly, would be a good idea to learn a few words of Papiamento ? (and that's a language I'd never heard of)

@phoenix .....well done on solving the clues....will start brushing up on my Papiamento....:)...(.had not heard of it either .)......Pasa un bon dia :)

Aruba? Good game eh/
@graj0 ....Hopi bon :)....that's papiamento for 'very good'.......so now everyone knows where I am going....:)....virtual visitors are welcome to join me....

Following one of your earlier posts and just out of curiosity I checked out Area 51 on google maps.....does that put us both on the same FBI list;)...
and have you got any other interesting locations to share...

..I once had a virtual visit to Sydney Opera House and the nearby Botanical Gardens.......also Gardens by the Bay in Singapore (this one is on my wish list:))......would love a return visit to Singapore one day..spent a couple of days there at the end of a tour of the Far East (Hong Kong / Bangkok/ Penang) about 25 years ago and just loved it:)...my one regret was that we did not get to visit Raffles as it was closed for refurbishment and reopened the day after we left:(.......I did get a photo of the staff all lined up for their official photo in front of the hotel though so have that memory...:)

@ElyDave
Same part of the world as Molly but actually almost 1000km away. Looks like business rather than pleasure. Unfortunately, you are several months too late for the carnival.

Most of my trips are business, and some of them, like last week's to places you wouldn't be going otherwise.

But I do get to see some interesting thinsg asn meet some interesting folks while I'm doing it.

Am I allowed to show off? Oh what the heck! I have stayed at Raffles several times since 1993, they send me birthday cards like I'm a long lost friend. I don't drink or smoke, so it's my vice, just that it comes in one big hit, being a one or two night stay. I hope that I will be able to stay again, maybe I'll be lucky enough to go to Australia/New Zealand again and Singapore is a good stopover, I did Auckland in one go once, nearly killed me, walked round like a zombie for a week. I'm not getting any younger.

I never went into Raffles, just walked past. I'd got a long layover in Singapore, but after the botanic gardens and a few other bits and pieces, the jetlag was murder and i'd lost enthusiasm. Sometime...

The hotel we always use in Jakarta has a very good pattisserie and I my birthday coincided with a stay there. I was most surprised to find a large cake in my room one evening after dinner with "Happy Birthday Neilson" on a chocolate plaque (they photocopy your passport when you arrive). It went into the clients offices the next day and disappeared in a flash

I've managed to get to Sydney once, in July coinciding with a Monday bank holiday. Only trouble was it was chucking it down all day and cold. Abandoned my plan for lunch at Manly Beach adn the botanic gardens and went for the indoor option of the colonial museum and buying a new jumper in the winter sales.

Aruba? Good game eh/
@graj0 @phoenix .....slightly off topic but just to prove how strange life is..
...was just sorting out my holiday packing and some new swimwear that I recently purchased in Debenhams sale.....a bargain at £11 rather than £38!......the name on the label....."Aruba"
.....how strange / spooky is that.....:woot:......

I used google earth to buy my last 2 homes!! Helped enormously with making the right decisions.

I love Streetview on google maps!

Once (in prediabetic days) we street viewed the pizza delivery place and read their phone number off the shop window!

I have also google mapped
Fingals Cave, downtown Chicago, Indian temples, Edinburgh golf course, Winchester cathedral precinct...(while reading books, to find out what the place looks like)

On a practical level, we regularly check parking possibilities in strange towns, and you can even check out one way systems, if you like!

And for sentimental reasons, I have visited towns and villages I used to live, looked at houses my grandparents lived in when I was a child, looked at my own previous car parked on the street, visited holiday cottages...

And (this is the doozy) satellite viewed the tiny but clearly visible footpath that my cat had worn through the long summer grass on his several-times-a-day trek across the field to my neighbours, for his second breakfasts, teas, and all snacks in between. No wonder he never lost weight!

Usually an airport, followed by another airport.
I'm thinking google earth may be better than all the business trips I used to have to go on.

@Brunneria ...your post reminds me of other occasions when I have used google maps....

When I moved into my house and got a new telephone number I started to get phone calls for a business...when I googled it and found the address I used street view to find where they were and then phoned the shop next door.....couldn't phone the business directly as I had the same number!!!.....turned out the business was no longer in existence and BT in their wisdom had given me their old number:(.....still get phone calls for them now some three years later but at least I can explain they no longer exist....

On another occasion I was looking into family history ....found the school house where one of my great grandparents had lived and taught.....and going further back to the previous generation found the turnpike's cottage where their predecessors had once lived....is a great way to bring family history to life....:)

Love the idea of seeing the path that your cat took.:cat:....have three cats myself and would love to know where they get to when out and about...:)
