I have joined the forum to get advice for my 83 year old diabetic father in law. He has been visiting a podiatrist to get his toe nails filed but this service is ceasing and he is looking to buy an electronic/battery operated nail file similar to that which the podiatrist uses - many of those i can see on line say not suitable. Does anyone have any ideas?
 
You have to be very careful with diabetic feet and that is why many products carry a warning, I would ring your FIL gp practice and ask how he is supposed to manage to cut his own toe nails from here-on.]

your father in law would be entitled to an nhs one

it is an nhs one he has been going to - i think the problem may be regularity and waiting lists - I know earlier in the year they suggested my mother in law could start doing them - she is 81. I would do it but he also takes warfarin so at the slightest cut he bleeds excessively, this is why he had the idea of buying his own electric one

I'm afraid I wouldn't be letting MIL be cutting them or you for that matter, could you afford to have a Chiropodist come in and cut them for him? Either that or maybe his gp surgery my be able to assist, sometimes gp surgery's have Podiatrists visit their surgery's for a day/half a day a week.

As a diabetic he is entitled to have his feet checked regularly as part of his diabetes care plan.
 
Please make yourselves aware of the
NHS guidelines for footcare and diabetes.

Go to nhs choices website and search under.. Can I get chiropody on the NHS?

It is not a giveaway to all diabetics as standard nowadays.
