Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Not open for further replies.
5.9; 5.7; 6;.1; 6.3 during the day.
7.7 at bedtime
7.6 fasting.

Entirely my own fault - I had a rather large pear yesterday evening. :arghh:

Diana - Apologies if I have asked this a million times already..... Have you ever tested at 03:00 or 04:00 to see where your bloods are at that point? I have relatively recently realised that where I score in my 3.5-4.5 personal range is heavily influenced by when I get up. I'm a bit of an early bird, but if I lie in a bit longer I'm at he upper end of my range.

Obviously, I'm unconcerned to be at the upper end at 4.5, but it's been an interesting revelation to me.

7.3 this morning...the humalog appears to be working nicely

8.0 :( I have just been halved my metformin on advise of my doctor and told not to test but this morning its 8.0 usually 5.5 what do I do? My HnA1c was 5.7

4.8 at bedtime
6.9 fasting
8.0 before breakfast

@alliebee I tried the morning nut test :) and unfortunately it didn't do anything for me... except to make me dream about nuts last night l0l

Hi @AndBreathe . Nothing to apologise for - you haven't asked before!

To be honest, I now sleep so heavily that I'm not really conscious enough at those times of the night! I only wake once for the bathroom and am only half-awake then. Going back over my diary, I have recorded a few levels at between 5.9 and 7.7 at around 2am and 4.30am

I too am an early bird, rarely lie-in and usually bounce around like Tigger as soon as my eyes are open! Taking my bs is the 2nd thing I do in the morning, as soon as I have been to the bathroom and washed my hands, and before having anything to drink.

I am awaiting a second liver scan which I think may be revealing as my bs during the day are really good.

Thank you for you observations

EDIT I have monthly blood tests to check liver function because of the risk to my liver from taking Methotrexate by injection. The results are consistently slightly raised but not causing alarm. I believe there is a connection which is why I have stopped taking the drug

If you're lower at 4:30 (and who knows when the rise actually starts), then although higher on rising, it would appear the rise isn't for a long period. It would drive me bonkers, but in the scheme of things, it may just be something you don't completely get to the bottom of. :(

What are you expecting/hoping the liver scan will show?

Hi MsV :)

Yes I did but I won't put it down to that. I felt light weakness in the legs / light headed, my heart telling me I couldn't walk any great distance, irritable and light trembling. That, after such a low carb brekkie and a great fasting reading? I just don't get it.

I've been reading all day while you guys have been tucked up in bed and everything about LCHF (and this is day 10 for me) suggests the symptoms are normal and I have to push through.

.... and yet again, after feeling pretty ordinary all day, (it's 5 pm here) I have a small glass of red wine, and I'm feeling much better.

Go figure :) Take care

Mike
This sounds like low carb flu. I got it about 8 to 10 days in. Felt a bit weird and weak and lightheaded. It does pass though after a few days...wierdly my readings were a bit higher during this time

4.5 before dinner
5.2 after
5.1 fasting

Just wondering how my a1c was 7.5 when I have not seen a reading more than 6 even once.

5.9 this morning bed on 5.8.

I'm beginning to wonder if I might see better results in fasting levels if I got up earlier? I usually have a hot drink about 8pm with a piece of cheese or square of dark chocolate then it is over 13hrs before I test which seems an extended time to me and ample opportunity for a bit of liver action. I often wake around 7 but rarely test then which is probably when I should be testing but can't face getting out of bed to wash hands!

oh the things I do in the name of science.... :) I'll have to consider the cheese string as I cant imagine I will like them.:depressed:

@Nuthead it makes me laugh too... in fact last night it took me a while to get to sleep because I found it strange sleeping next to a nut lol In fact I am sure it was watching me!!

Live dangerously and test without washing your hands. Were they clean when you went to bed? And what do you do in the night to make them unsavoury?
