Hello

I was hoping someone could give me some answers to recent tests
I have had done. I was referred to my doctor from a neurologist that
done some blood work at the hospital. Which he said was concerning
of diabetes
HbA1c 50mmol
Random glucose 7.1

I had a fasting glucose done at the doctors last week 7.2 and another
HbA1c 49mmol which I phoned for results today.

My doctor is away for a week and cant get an app. Will these findings
find me diabetic or will it be classes as pre diabetes. Any help would be
Greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums. It is hard to say whether you are definitely diabetic or pre diabetic, only your doctor can tell you that. The numbers are a little high, but not outrageous. Although they would suggest diabetes.

This forum is great you will learn so much here.

Hi and welcome, I was told by my GP that x2 Hba1c tests done 3 months apart with readings of 48 or more is the definitive diagnosis for diabetes, however in the meantime I would suggest that you get yourself a monitor and test before and after meals, and take the data with you when you go back to your GP.

There is lots of really useful information on this forum, and any doubts or questions just ask away :-)

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. Having to wait over a week for a definite diagnosis is going to be hard! This site has some good advice.

Like a fool I waited 3 months for my review before I found this forum, and I've learned more in a few weeks being on here than I ever could from my diabetic nurse. It truly is a godsend. My BG is under control now, because of my understanding of my diabetes that I have learned here, so please do have a good nosey around and feel free to join in the discussions :-)

Its very confusing all these numbers!! I guess from the forum that everyone feels that way to start with. The cutting down on carbs is definitely something I will try. Never realised I ate so many carbs!!. Thank you for making me feel welcome. :)

No worries debz, yep your so right, carbs are turned to sugar, however trust me, you can still have some gorgeous food and control this beast :-) I'm off to sleep now...so nighty night

Hi - I was diagnosed diabetic - my numbers were 48, and then 50 - with a fasting level of 7.6. According to what I was told. Up to 41 - normal. 42-48 pre-diabetic, 49+ diabetic. Anything above 7 on fasting is also in the diabetic range. I would recommend you check out the advice on here. Whether you fall into diabetic or pre-diabetic you need to make the same changes. Good luck.

Hi. Yes, your HBa1C suggests you are diabetic. The HBa1C is far more relevant than a fasting test. To help reduce that blood sugar have a look at the diet info on the forum and come back with more questions. What is your BMI?

Thank you both for your answers. Im not sure what my BMI is. I wouldnt say I was badly over weight. I do have high blood pressure and have found medication difficult because of side effects. Im on beta blockers but not found the right dose and its still high. I am a smoker so I guess if i am diagnosed its going
to have to be a big life style change for me.
