Wow.
You will be sparking with green-smoothie vitality!
:D
It is like drinking health, isn't it?

Have you had such large quantities of them before?
If not, are you prepared for the consequences? The bathroom consequences?

Hi Brunneria

Yes, you're right... It's drinking health .... I absolutely love homemade green juices & green smoothies :)

I started drinking them 1 year ago to help bring my sugars down and it definitely helped.... Hba1c came down from 76 to 60!!:happy:

Ive even done green juice & smoothie cleanses .... But always make sure that I'm near a bathroom!!!;)

Brunneria, I just noticed from your signature that you too enjoy green smoothies.

How often do you drink them and how does it effect the diabetes?

Hi Rose 28 .
Your smoothies sound delicious ..
B.2xrashers of bacon
Courgette, leftover buttered cabbage , 1 small boiled potatoe and a fried egg .All fried in butter .
L.Avocado and 1 cup bulletproof coffee.
Supper stirfried beef with peppers mushrooms savoy cabbage ..and ginger...
Also walked approx 4 miles with nocarb cravings afterwards.

Hi mamamodge, I'm loving the sound of veggies fried in butter!!! I'm used to butter on toast but I'm given up bread from today, it's not kind to the diabetes or IBS.

What's bulletproof coffee?

At the moment, I'm not drinking them :(
Because I've just been doing a stint of very low carbing, with quite a high (well, ok, a VERY high) fat intake.
But I do miss them!
Just reading your post made my mouth flood with saliva.

So I might just start with them again... ;)

I find it easier, spring and summer, in good weather, so might need ease back in gradually...

For about a year, I was drinking them every day. Breakfast and lunch. Huge quantities. Felt fantastic. Ironically, I think that was the year I actually drifted into type 2 after about 20 yrs of prediabetes. I don't think the green smoothies contributed (more likely it was the simultaneous Galaxy chocolate addiction). And in fact, I'm pretty sure that it was the green smoothies that eased my descent into type 2. It was only when I stopped them, in the autumn, that I realised my blood glucose situation had transitioned into type 2.

When I make them with 60% veg and 40% non tropical fruit, they are fab for my blood glucose (rise of about 1-1.5 mmol/l after an hour.

Do you have a meter? Are you testing?

Bullet proof coffeee is coffe made with coconut oil and grassfed unsalted butter...the trick is to whisk it all together ....its the like a latte.
Coconut oil is a good medium chain fat ....

That's amazing... I had a M&S breadcrumbed lemon sole fillet, just because we had them in the freezer, and my reading was awful.... how odd...

I test first thing in the morning and then randomly in the day... Especially if I feel as though sugars are too high, which they have been lately.

Someone from the site mentioned to check my sugars just before eating and then 2 hours later to check if that foods impact on the readings.

Can you believe since March this year I havnt been drinking much green drinks and readings have been increasing since I stopped the green juice/ smoothies!!! Whilst drinking them daily, sugars were always between 4 - 7. In fact this has just reminded me that I need to get on that green wagon again!!! Lol

I like that... 'drifting into diabetes'... that's what I think I did too, over the last 9 months...:)

I know very weird. I can't have fish fingers though...or anything like...although a battered piece of chip shop fish is fine too...its the only area I'm lucky. I miss my porridge and carrots and parsnips are like liquid sugar for me
I wonder if its the resistant starch as they are cooked ( baked) chilled then cooked again. Lots of people have been posting on this recently. I found out by accident really right at the start when I was testing for everything. Yet one slice of bread sends me skywards. ( except rye sourdough). Guess we are all different

Do u make your own onion bajhias? I have a complicated recipe that neither of us really like but could do with a simple recipe, though I find small shop ones don't seem to do much damage to my levels.

Breakfast bacon, poached egg mushrooms
Lunch mushroom bacon and onion crustless quiche salad
Dinner sundays's leftover beer and gravy made into cauli cheese mash topped shepherds ' pie , Savoy cabbage, tbsp peas and some beetroot and red cabbage
Snack handful peanuts , small russet apple and 20g cheese. Is is starve or feed a cold? I'm opting for feed.

I do, but tonights were bought.

I don't really have a recipe. I just sort of chop my onion, make a batter up of gram flour with a smidge of Pataks mild curry paste, and fry in a dab of oil in a non-stick pan. I don't deep fry. Mine come out like flat drop scones, with crispy edges.

hold on, I will look for a batter recipe.

OK, so I looked. some recipes use eggs (I don't), and the ones that don't just use water.

I think it is more a case of playing, than being purist.

Its been a while, but typically I use a few tablesp of gram flour, water, the paste, beat/blend till smooth, then dump in the onion and stir. I like it with a lot more onion than batter...

Not sure if that helps at all.
