I am nearing 80 and am a GP. discovered 1AC just above normal levels, with family history of Type 2 diabetes...bought home testing kit the same day and gave away all lollies in the house ! Hopefully these are probably the cause of the high 1AC....and with the home testing I have found that I still have plenty of insulin around as can get a low Blood sugar after eating only starches for breakfast....Am also a Coeliac which means most of my fibre is soluble and of higher GI.....an addiction to sugar and weight about 5Kg above normal does not help ( BMI 27 )...life-long member of Weight Watchers lol
Look forward to learning more from all of you
Best wishes...enjoy the ride!

PS forgot to say I am also an artist of wildlife mainly, donating proceeds to wildlife conservation.

Ah welcome
I hope you are willing to have any misconceptions you may have about diabetes turned on their head lol
I fear you may become a busy poster

hi, welcome :)

there is alot of info on the forum so i would definately have a good read, as much as i wished you werent type 2 now, this could be a benefit to your patients once you learn more about it, in my experience some Gp`s could do with an education regards db

ask any questions you have, always someone here that will try to help

best of luck!

Hi, you need to eat like your Mum did, but less carb and a bit more fat than that now

http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf it’s a long page and a video

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarbliving/a/Food-Cravings.htm For me, the more carbs we eat the more carbs we want. they don’t give up easy.

Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized; fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore be recommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.
