Quick question and possibly a stupid one ;)

Would my blood sugar rise if my basal was too low ?

Yup!

But there may be other reasons too.

Why do you ask?

I'm really struggling to stop my bloods rising after meals... Tried everything and was contemplating increasing my basal by a unit and seeing if it helps.
My current dosage would appear to be correct as I don't drop and they stay relatively stable when carbs aren't involved

Sounds like your ratio rather than your basal pg

Hmm. Could be a few things.

How long before food are u injecting? I've found with my libre that I need to inject up to 20 mins / half an hour for some foods.

How long after food are you testing and are you back to a good level before ur next meal?

My ratio has to be right as I return to what I was before each meal. I am injecting 1:10 for each meal

I would say it could be time before injection. Try injecting 5 then 10 mins earlier

I'm injecting earlier too. Tried 25 minutes + .... Still doesn't work. I've tried different sites, injecting sooner later, upon eating. I've tried walking around afterwards etc etc... Nothing works ! Lol

Are you newly diagnosed, could be honeymoon ending

Yeah 6 months ago. Looking back at my readings from around 6 weeks ago I am defiantly out of honey moon.

The issue I have is I assume this is the 'norm' so I need to now how to conquer it

It's wierd though, my DAFNE course said as long as u come back to good levels after 4 hours ur ratio is correct. I never liked the thought of being high inbetween either.
I inject half an hour before food now.

Have u thought about going low carb?

If you stay steady when you don't eat it suggests your basal is ok. As emmotha asked, how high is your reading after eating and how long after eating?

That's interesting- I haven't been on the dafne course yet. Should you be back to what you were before eating within 4 hours ? Or just back in normal range ?

If ur ratios are correct you should be back to around the same level. We kept a diary of insulin units and carbs for each meal and had to try to stay at the same level before each meal. They said only measure every 4 hours and not to worry about what happens straight after food. But I'd rather not go high at all.

The best way I can do this for me is reduce my carbs :)

Well if your bg levels remain stable in the absence of food and your levels return to normal 4-5 hours after food then it's the timing of your bolus doses that need to be addressed, see if you can find anything useful in the following, personally I find injecting ahead of my food reduces postprandial spikes:

Today as an example. Before dinner at 1pm I was 6.3... Starting rising by 14:15 and went up to 13.9. Stayed between that and at 5pm (4 hours later) I was 8.1. I've had worse days than this with the same ratio and the Same dinner where ive stayed higher for longer.

Reference the above... At 6.30pm I was back on the 6's

I have that with porridge. One day no spike, next day massive spike. Try injecting even another 5 / 10mins before see if that helps
