Oh well onwards and upwards I suppose.
I hope everyone is having a good day.

metformin takes 3 weeks to work :)
perhaps 1/2 the amount of peanut butter next time...it was on a celery sticks wasn't it?
if it was on bread, throw the bread away and keep the peanut butter

Bloody hard trying to find things to eat that aren't going to raise BS levels. Since cutting out all bread, cakes, biscuits etc (only til I find some good low carb/sugar ones) my readings seem to be settling down. It's just a case of trial and error. Chin up, go and hang another bauble on your tree, that will cheer you up.

Hi snowy, I think with a newly diagnosed diabetic on medication it will take a little time for it to work, with some tweaking here and there. Also there is the low carb section which has some good looking recipe's on it ( and good for me too, having Coeliac disease) Good luck and I'm sure you will get good results soon.

It is hard work, but baby steps are the answer. Testing out meals is all trial and error - are you keeping a food diary (including portion sizes) and recoding your levels alongside ? Patterns will emerge, and you will learn how much of which foods you can eat, but as I said. Trial and error. Once you have gone a couple of weeks you will have a better idea. Keep going!

Thank you for all your replys, did start a food diary which was definitely helping thought I've got this lol so done some whole meal bread toasted with some peanut butter on so it looks like I don't have this.
@jack412 thanks for letting me know it will take that amount of time to work and no celery stick I am afraid.the Metformin gave me the worst belly cramp I had experienced didn't no if I needed the loo or be sick it did pass after an hour thank god, also glad I have lots of loo roll.
Thanks RRB I have started to look at all meals to avoid so hopefully will be on the right track.
@Bluetit1802 Thanks I definitely need to pay more attention I obviously got to carried away with myself,it actually is a lot harder than I thought.
@adrian207 thanks for cheering me up,I did hang another dec on the tree so now it is all done,I just feel tried Grrr .

Some peanut butters are quite high in carbs. I hate the stuff myself, but the one in the cupboard has 9.2g/100g which is OK but is a 'no added sugar' variety (ironic that they have to point that out).

Scroll down to the desserts :wacky:

Worth mentioning that I think the key to low carb baking is the choice of sweetener.
The best ever flavour IMHO is xylitol (all major supermarkets) but since it's poisonous to dogs, I use erythritol (Amazon). I don't touch any of the others - they all seem to have chemically synthetic flavours, even the stevia has a bitter aftertaste.

@Snowy12
If you are anything like me, you've been using food for comfort and emotional bolstering for years. ;) (Just ignore me, if you haven't been!)
Becoming diabetic rattles that cage pretty hard. So, to give yourself a little breather, just til the new habits settle, why not have a delicious, non sinful indulgence from the low carb link above?

I was in hospital on the 14th Nov after suffering a heart attack and it was while I was there that they started me on Metformin + others. The first day of taking the tablets I got severe pains and feelings of wanting to go to the loo all the time. When I did get to go which wasn't easy as I was tethered to an insulin drip, it just came out like water..........diarrhea. This lasted 3 days but has now stopped and I feel tons better. Like you say and like I am finding out, this finding the right things to eat is very hard. Up to now I know that I'm ok with bacon and eggs in the morning weird though it sounds and burgers (no buns) with lots of chopped up lettuce and carrot mix and natural yoghurt with a squirt of lemon juice seems to be ok too. I'm going to experiment with making my own chicken curries and I'll let you know how I get on.
Right you've had enough rest now, go hang another bauble. bauble smiley.jpg

@Brunneria I wished it had been the food but I can honestly say it has been down to the 2 bottles of coke I used to drink the big bottles so I have no one else to blame apart from myself, which has all stopped I haven't drunk coke ect for about 8 weeks and I don't miss it.

You are not the only one! I think both @zand and @akindrat18 have both said they've experienced something similar.

Me? It was chocolate, Galaxy to be specific. All the fat kept the spike from being too sharp, but boy, those calories... And it really was all down to carb addiction.

You are not alone, believe me! ;)

Oh wow you have been through it.so glad it's not only me that spend more time in the loo than out of it,I was concerned about the pains in my stomach that started at about 11.00pm my stomach swelled up and the pains started lasted an hour or so is that what it is meant to feel like?
I am curious as I took the tablet at about 9.00 in the morning thought the symptoms would of been a few hours after taken it.
Oh well I shall see if it happens tonight.
Chicken curry sounds god yes let us know how it goes need more variety instead of sticking to the safe food that I know I can tolerate.

Yes and unbelievably with me it was diet coke which helped me pile on the pounds! I've since learnt that it can make insulin resistance worse.

My stomach upset started normally just after dinner and lasted most of the afternoon. Bed pans were offered but how undignified is that. Bad enough having to stand up and pee in a bottle. I should have peeded on the floor, then maybe they would have taken me to a proper toilet.
Right this curry thing..............as we are allowed butter apparently, I will use butter instead of Ghee. The spices I will have to look into but can't see how spices can be high in carbs anyway. Corriander, well that's a vegetable so that's ok and chicken is fine for us. Can't see a problem really but at the end of the day it's the BS reading that will have the last word. Might try it tonight as I have all the ingredients in.....watch this space.chef hat smiley.jpg
