:stop:You're not supposed to smoke them ***. You're supposed to soak them in boiling water, like a tea bag:happy:

Ok, I'll use them more than once then.. but if my numbers go up I'll stop.. :)
Honestly Adrian the advice I have had from the NHS is not to re-use finger prick lancets or any form of needle due to blunting and pathogens. I do however appreciate the cost of stuff involved.

I personally would rather use new each time and as I get them for free any way, might as well. I only submitted my findings so that members could make up their own minds about reusing the needles or not. I did find another thread on here that had quite a few replies, some for and some against, so I started a new thread with poll to refresh the subject.

How often are you getting scripts and are they allowing you to self monitor every day ?

I get them as soon as I start running out. The last lot I got for my "New Blingy Monitor" was 100 (2 x 50 boxes) + 200 single use Lancets.
So yes I can monitor myself as much as I want really but don't go overboard in case I get questioned as to why I'm using so many. At the moment I'm using about 6 a day so that I can monitor what foods make me spike and which don't. I then make a little note listing the good stuff.

I get all my diabetes supplies on prescription from the Hospital Diabetes Clinic. I do two injections of mixed insulin a day and test 4 times daily, before and 2 hours post meal. If you are on meds twice a day should suffice. I hate pricking and injecting anyway.

i know this might sound sick but, I actually get a buzz out of stabbing myself, purely to see the results. If I get a good reading then I'm happy but if it's a bit higher than expected, I look at what I ate previous to it and make a little note to either reduce quantity or cut it out altogether. I can normally get a 3-4 mile walk in between the first (before brek) stab and the 2 hrs later stab. Then about 3 hrs later (before the dinner) stab and again 2 hours later. Same for the tea time stabbings, so a total of 6 a day. My GP told me I didn't need to monitor myself as all the results she needed came from the 3 monthly blood samples. When I told her it was purely for my own needs and why, she said she had no problem supplying them, just come back when you're running out.:nurse:

unlike malamutes ... who could talk for England o_O
Defo not malaMUTE then ;)..... One of my GSD boys tells me everytime someone dares to walk past on the other side of the street; that's taking our front garden into account. Shutting the curtains doesn't help...

Lovely German Shepherd Jan. My nephew is a Police Dog handler and he and his German Shepherd have a genuine bond after 9 years. I saw a blue eyes Australian Collie (blue merle) today. She was so cute and friendly.

My gp nurse, not specialist, was very approving of my having got and used a meter to get myself out of prediabetic range and into normal range. She sounded really pleased about it.
