I tested this morning and my reading was 11.8 I ate some porridge and then 2 hours later tested again to find it had gone up too 19.8 so I guess I won't be eating porridge :-(Hello. If you tell us the sort of things you eat I'm sure we can help get that reading down.
When you test, do it just before a meal and then two hours after the first mouthful.
Take it easy, all will be well![]()
You need to test a food two or three times before you think you may have to give it up don't just go on one test Try a smaller portion before you test next time a lot is to do with portion size.I tested this morning and my reading was 11.8 I ate some porridge and then 2 hours later tested again to find it had gone up too 19.8 so I guess I won't be eating porridge :-(
NO NO NO...................Porridge is defo OUT. I and a lot of others have the same problem, porridge rockets B S levels. I went from porridge to bacon and eggs or berries in greek yoghurt (not fruit) berries. Iceland have bags of frozen berries for £1.50 and I just take one out of my freezer the night before to defrost.I tested this morning and my reading was 11.8 I ate some porridge and then 2 hours later tested again to find it had gone up too 19.8 so I guess I won't be eating porridge :-(
Thank you, I am going shopping today so will get some Greek yoghurt and berries to try. I must admit I'm finding all this very confusing with what I can have and what I should stay away fromNO NO NO...................Porridge is defo OUT. Toast (bread) is another that tends to raise B S levels as well, so try to stay away from that. What you are doing is right by testing before and 2 hrs after. This will give you the readings that you need to work out what is good or you and what isn't.. Well done.
The main things to stay away from are bread, pasta, rice, porridge and potatoes. If you go shopping have a look at the back of the packets where it says "Nutritional Value". Look for the carbohydrates (which will normally be per 100g) and check what it is. I tend to go for food that says it's under 5g per 100g but sometimes I will go to 8-10g depends whether I really want that food. Again it is just down to testing testing testing. If you like burgers, Asda do some 1/4 pounders that are NIL carbs and NIL sugars. 1 of these with shredded lettuce or salad, yoghurt and fried onion is fab.Thank you, I am going shopping today so will get some Greek yoghurt and berries to try. I took your advice when I went shopping and didn't get anything with over 10g carbs - I managed to get the 1/4 pounder burgers you mentioned so I'm happyThe main things to stay away from are bread, pasta, rice, porridge and potatoes. I hope you like them. It's not easy shopping for low carb stuff, is it? Do you like pork scratchings? If so you can snack on those as well because they are very low in carbs. Eggs, cheese, butter, double cream, most cold meats, salad, vegetables, etc.............all good. If you have a lidl's nearby, look for Bratwurst pork sausages, 6 in a pack...............these are nice and low in carbs again.I took your advice when I went shopping and didn't get anything with over 10g carbs - I managed to get the 1/4 pounder burgers you mentioned so I'm happythank you x

No problem DizzyChick, we're all here to help each other.Your not kidding - I think I tripled the usual time in the shops checking the labels on everything! You have made my day with saying I can still have pork scratchings as I automatically thought they were off limits. I do have a lidls in my town and have had the bratwurst sausages before so I will be Deffo adding them to my list for next shopping trip!
Thank you so much for the help![]()

Hey DizzyChick, are you on Atorvastatin by any chance? I'll tell you why I'm asking because I am type 2 and have been on them since Nov. My hospital blood results showed everything was normal apart from my blood sugar levels which were 27. I am glad to say though, through listening to members on here and changing my diet I am now in the 5-7 range. I was put on Atorvastatin whilst in hospital in Nov and the last 2 blood results have shown my liver function to not be as good as it could be (just like yours). I then researched the Atorvastatin side effects and found that this drug actually can affect the results of the liver. I then went back to my GP with my findings and asked if I could come off them until my next blood sample, just to see if it was them that was making my results seem high. My GP then turned round and said "You are on Atorvastatin for a reason". "Oh,what reason is that then" I replied. "To lower and keep control of your cholesterol" she said. "Well how much lower than 1.2 do you want me to get to" was my reply. She then looked up my previous results going back to when I was in hospital and found to her amazement that I was right and with that agreed to me coming off the Atorvastatin for the 2 weeks before my next blood sample, which I had last week. I got a letter Saturday asking me to make a "ROUTINE" appointment to discuss my results and the next sentence said "this could be within 4 weeks". So going off that, IF there was anything wrong I presume they would have asked me to make an appointment very quickly. I am going to ring the GP today, make said appointment and once at that appointment will find out if coming off the Atorvastatin has resulted in my liver function results coming down. I will post my findings on here once I get back, whenever that may be.I went to see the diabetic nurse and must say I was very disappointed. I had my feet checked - all fine my cholesterol results came back fine but they are concerned with my liver function ( need to have more blood tests) my blood results were 117 the same as when diagnosed. And when I'm testing I can't seem to get it lower than 12 I was pretty much told I could eat what I want as long as it wasn't too much ( I will ignore that advice) it was mentioned about going on a education course - are they worth it? I'm a bit worried about my liver function test - anyone had the same?
