Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

You may be on 6 monthly reviews rather than 3 monthly ones now. My GP is really ****, she thinks that if I have any problem its coz I am thinking about it in my mind and relating it to diabetes.
I dont have any appointments to see them and neither have they said anything about my reviews but when I last saw my DN she said she was quite impressed with my a1c and wanted to use me as a case study if possible but she did say to me we will see you in 4 months and gave me an appointment in may and thats it.
She has given me a FBC form but she said when you come in may you get the test done few days before so I will need that form for then but since my last a1c was in november i would really like to have one done now to see the progress from november to now.
 
Your accu-check may indeed read too low and/or the Codefree may be the most accurate meter- but, I've been checking against two other Codefree batches and for 20 tests batch 44 has only matched the other two twice- some of the other tests while higher than usual have been possible but many are just in the no way ballpark. If it were just me, I'd shrug and knuckle down but it's several of us using this batch and I don't believe we have all suddenly notched up .5mmol overnight which mine did when I switched pots.
 
0.00, totally forgot this morning in the rush to get to work and try to sort a multitude or problems. Usual day for me.

However on averages I will record a 5.5 which is my norm.

It looks like you are on 6 monthly reviews then, but no harm in asking for an interim HbA1c now. I would ring your DN and maybe tell her you are getting anxious about how you are doing (lay it on a bit thick possibly), explain you don't want a full review, just a blood test. If she is kind like my DN she may authorise it. Worth a try.

But even with my gluco rx I find the batches of strips vary, sometimes quite a bit.
I also find it annoying that there is such a high degree of inaccuracy allowed for something so important.

All meters have to comply with the 15% rule, so I doubt there is a great deal of difference between any of them. Our problem lies with a particular batch of strips rather than the meter. I've had very little trouble with the other batches other than a few silly rogue readings that may or may not have been the strips. They have at least been consistent if not entirely accurate. This batch is anything but consistent.
 
I have ordered a Codfree meter, reading all the above now wishing i had gone for a different one. At the moment I am using my brothers spare BGSTAR, but replacement strip are more expensive than codfree.
Anyone have experience with the BGSTAR, is it any good,?

Millysue Codefree aint all that bad. The Accucheck and some other meters are way overpriced...I spent a fortune first 6 weeks. Got Codefree and frankly when I went t get my Hba1c reading it confirmed at 5.6 that overall the Codefree had been giving very accurate readings.

It's not so expensive here as it's something of a staple I suppose...I tend to buy in bulk and grind my own - skin and all... there is a milling gadget on the NutriBullet and I use that... coconut doesn't work the same way - it's never as fine, it just tends to clump... Not that you can use much of it, it sucks up water like nobody's business and makes stuff quite dry I think... I am experimenting all the time and need to go over to the other thread to post some recipes when I get them right - I've almost got my almond bread perfect... still testing though...

Vis-a-vis remembering to order stuff when in UK; we run a shared spreadsheet (stored in a shared folder in Dropbox), with a few tabs on. Tabs include UK shopping list, Overseas shopping list, Home jobs and Paradise jobs. When we're in one place and think of something, we bang it onto the speadsheet for action or prioritisation.

The UK shopping list always has certain stuff on, like water filters and some essential oils we use as insect repellents, but it saves a lot of frustration, and works for us.

Just done my first test of the day pre lunch, 5.2 so happy enough with that.

The SD CodeFree Meter is one of the most accurate and reliable blood glucose meters available. Zurich University
Hospital recently (28/03/2012) published research on the accuracy and reliability of the top 20 blood glucose meters
and they came up with the following results:

Thanks @daddys1 very interesting! I found the explanation of the chart, which says:

Basically, the 20 meters were all tested 10 times against a laboratory verified sample of 6.5mmol/l. The results above show that only 3 meters achieved a more accurate result (shown by the "bias" column) over the 10 tests but of these 3, only 1 meter achieved a more consistently accurate result (shown by the variance figures in the "VK%" column). In other words, of the 3 meters that had a more accurate result over the 10 tests, 2 of them had much greater variation of results (i.e. less consistency).

What these results essentially show is that the only meter that achieved more consistently accurate results than the SD Codefree Blood Glucose Meter was the Finetest system - a unit which, as far as we are aware, is not available to the general public and is only available to medical professionals.

These results also show that whilst the SD Codefree Meter will consistently give you an accurate result, some better known brands such as the Freestyle Lite and the Bayer Contour will consistently give you readings which are much lower than your true blood glucose level.

So it seems the Codefree is very good, accurate and consistent. I bet they didn't use batch 44 strips during the experiment! LOL ;)

Can't help you with the #44's :)
 
I don't expect amazing accuracy but some consistency would be good between strips in the pot, if not between batches!!
Just done my pre lunch test using batch 44 - 5.2 which is ok. But my body is giving all it's usual at 4.7 or under signals. I'm glad I'm not relying on it for hypo awareness or whatever.
 
4.7 which is good considering I had eaten more than usual yesterday. BP was quite high at 143/80.
