Newbie trying Newcastle diet.

Once this is finished carry on with a low carb diet for a few months introduce an exercise regime god I miss running. Then have my bloods done see the outcome of that then have a day of a pig out to see how my system is doing :)

why can't you run whilst on ND? I started my exercise regime at the same time

I'm dropping quite a lot of weight without the exercise I can't really afford to loose too much at this stage. Once I'm back on more calories then I will start

I dont think you will lose more just keep your muscle whereas without it you may start to get a reduction in muscle mass as your body decides you dont need it

Is walking considered ok. I can't run due just not my thing. I walk about a mile and a half everyday even now but no running.
@Flashtash2014 if you don't mind me asking what do you do at work, mine is a sitting IT job so I go at lunch time for a long walk as that's the only time I can do any form of exercise and how do you control if you are very very hungry. I have this problem that when I am hungry I can not control and I will eat whatever I can which is low carb.

I'm a designer and like you I sit on my bum all day but I tend to walk everywhere it's best to keep active. If you really do decide to do this you really need to keep active to take your mind off the diet weekends are the worse cause your thinking about food all the time. The first couple of days are the worst but your body adjusts very quickly

I read it's the other way around with very low cal, resting preserves muscle whereas exercise burns muscle for glucose

I suppose it depends on the amount of exercise.

I do walk as well as much as I can and I love cooking food, I cant stay away from kitchen for a single day, if not IT I would have been a chef so it will be very hard but I really want to do this.

Hey @The little white hen

How are you coping? Hope the information overload is not getting too much for you.
;)

I'm ok, thanks for asking. Most of the side effects seem to have gone, except I was a little cold yesterday and my husband thought the house was like a sweat box. Feeling quite hungry in late evening and having to save a slim fast for then. other than that its going well. I like the chat it helps to take my mind off things. Back to work on Monday and a wedding renewal tomorrow. First test of going out in public, herbal tea and water for me. My friends are very supportive and don't badger me about not drinking since I became diabetic.

I found the same problem, I work at home part of the time as well, so temptation was always there. I think its a slow process of change of habits, until you get to a good place.

Just had my first check in with the dietician lost 3.5lbs or 1.59kg in four days, she made an alteration to the diet based on my last blood test and I now have to alternate the chick peas with a egg. One day and egg the next chick peas or pulses, yum.

I would guess that the 800 cal lower fat/protein with ~80g carb keeps you out of low carb ketosis, yet doesn't provide enough energy for hard exercise. It won't take much to hit the wall...

Thanks, just watched this and it was great research for the post ND diet. I will send the link to my dietician and discuss it with her. Its becoming clear that low carbs are the only way to go for a sustained diabetes free life.
