Feeling a little worried today, my levels have been all over the place the last 5 - 7 days no matter what I eat. Lowest 7.4 and highest 13.0 before food first thing in a morning. Most around 9. I have had a little bit of a cold (hot & cold sweats etc) and it could be that. I am just worried that I will have to go back on my Forxiga 10mg (dapagliflozin) after all this hard work. They put me on that in addition to Metformin when this happened before. However, I was three stone heavier then. I have a blood on 19/5/15 and specialist appointment on 3/6/15. So we will see how it goes. I can tell its high this week without testing, that horrid headache all the time. I hope its just because I am ill. I felt so empowered when I started to take control and tablets dropped.

Hi everyone, new to this forum but been following some of you popular ones (feel as though I know you lol). Anyway think I'd like to join in as this is now my 4th week on the Newcastle diet and would love some support. I am type 2 and have been for around 6 years. Now feel time to take charge. I am on 2000mg metformin, 2 morning and 2 nightly. When I started I knew I would be high so did not want to test straight away. Anyway needless to say after 3 days in fasting bg was around 9.2. Cut a long story short. I am now seeing around 5.5 - 5.8 fasting and around 4.7 during day long after my shake. Then this evening I thought I'd test 30 mins after shake and it was a pleasing 5.3. Wondered if this is good and if this is just because it is only a shake. What would happen if it was a regular meal. Has anyone had experience of their bg after meals soon after eating a normal meal once they finished Newcastle. Also when did you make the decision to drop meds, what was the determining factor? Would be grateful if anyone would be happy to share their journey.

I have to say it was very hard at the beginning but even now I am literally drooling when I see anyone biting a sandwich, quite embarrassing lol. I started at 13.11 stone on 13th April and now 12.12 stone so going down slowly but I'm happy with it. Go on holiday a week after it finishes so kind of focusses me.

Thanks for listening, really hope that I lose this awful condition at the end of this gruelling 8 weeks

I am also in week four but had a blip last week after having a stressful time and lost no weight, back to it now though - lots of luck keep going!

I have been on a LC diet since I finished the ND and all was well until last week. I don't have carbs most days and when I do they are whole. For example I have wholemeal vermicelli yesterday with sea food. bloods 9.1 this morning, that's lower that the day before with no carbs at all. I had another hot flush at the gym today, and have been coughing quite a bit. I am hoping it goes back to normal around 6 when I feel better.

May be you are down with something I am on antibiotics at the moment but my levels are ok. Were you testing when you were on nd? What were your readings like then?

Yes and they were between 4 - 5 most of the time.
Would like to try ND but am dairy intolerant, think I read something about drops that are available to add to the meal replacement shakes,to make them not upset me. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi TLWH

how are your readings now?

I went to see the specialist on Wednesday my HbA1c is at 4.5 (in old Money) so doing fine. He thinks the lifted levels were due to a bug and nothing to worry about. All the other figures are still heading in the right direction after ND. My liver function was a concern after I finished the ND but is almost back to normal now. I am eight weeks in to the gym programme the hospital set me on when I ended ND and I have lost over 3% of body fat and put on 7llbs of muscle but only gained 2lbs in weight. That's what my doctor calls good weight because its lean muscle not fat. Never had any muscle before. He has reduced my Metformin to two a day from four a day and once we know that is not effecting feeling great the ND itself was hell but it has made such a difference to my health and life in general. I would only do it with support of doctor because of risks (my liver showed that) but I would do it again if I had my time over.
