I'm still on metformin ... Not sure if I still should be tho!
I was on sitagliptin for a few weeks, it made me very ill... Too ill that I nearly ended up in hospital :(

I've been on Forxiga since December 2014 and could see a reduction in blood sugars from day 1 :)
Lost a few pounds, not a lot, about 1/2 stone :) Clothes are quite loose... In fact I'm pleasantly surprised I can now wear dresses that were a wee bit snug before :joyful:
Haven't had any unpleasant side effects that the DN mentioned, such as urinary tract infections. :)
My tip is ... Drink lots and lots of water and I drink ocean spray low sugar cranberry juice, everyday!

Can't think of anything else atm but please let me know when you're going to start on Forxiga ... And I really hope it works for you :)

I know a couple of other people on here who have been on Forxiga and achieved fantastic results, much much better than mine!
WHY don't they give meds names you can actually pronounce ....esp ones that seem to be doing a lot of good. Is it because they don't want folks to ask for them?

LOL. Jan, Forxiga is also known as dapagilflozin!!! And guess what .... I can't prounoune either name!
And because it's still a fairly new drug, everytime I've had to mention to the pharmacist, some haven't even heard of it, so haven't a clue what I'm taking about :banghead:

Well, it's maybe a bit much to expect my other half of 30 years to suddenly take an interest in them, but I am quite bendy and can't resist raising them to my nose and having a sniff. I really can't understand it. The amount of quite new slippers I have had to bin because they made me gag! TMI?

Hi Rose, glad to hear it's working for you, I am hoping I see some good results. My DSN mentioned about the UTIs too; I drink loads of water anyway, good tip about the cranberry juice I have used it before and it's really helped :)

Cauliflower Bread:
1 cauliflower - put it in the blender with a clove of garlic
mix in 2-3 eggs, 100grammes grated cheese or parmesan, pinch of oregano & basil
turn out onto baking tray lined with greaseproof paper (pat down & shape)
cook in oven 40mins @170C (325F)
turn over (turn out onto another baking tray lined with greaseproof paper, removing the original greaseproof paper)
cook for a further 20 mins
remove from the oven and cool on a cooling rack
simples!
excellent as a pizza base :)

Breakfast - three cherry tomatoes and a cup of tea - I was in a rush!
Lunch - poached undyed smoked cod with a goat cheese, leek, mushroom and courgette sauce (gorgeous)!
Dinner - home made chicken and vegetable soup
Supper - nuts, cheese, cucumber, radish and a gherkin!

Got my eating the wrong way round today - too little at the beginning and too much at the end.

B... 2 T butter, 48 g mushrooms, 16 g spinach, 1 egg, 1 T feta, and 1 strip of bacon
L... 1 min flax bun, 1/2 avocado, 1 strip of bacon; 1 0.35 oz 70% cocoa dark chocolate
D... chicken with side of 10 brussel sprouts, onion, garlic, and butter; 1 0.35 oz 70% cocoa dark chocolate

My blood sugars were stable all day :joyful:...until dinner: 31 g carbohydrates, 51 g fat, 30 g protein total. My BG went from 143 to 191. Two hours later, it's barely budged. I had no idea how many carbs are in onions (1/2" section of rings, 7 g carbs), and brussel sprouts too (20 g carbs)!

Wow you have a lot of control! Do you not get hungry? Fruits are carbohydrates though. Do you not eat any meat? I really need to stopping eating so much! Especially junk food! I think insulin just makes me want to keep eating! I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and eat more healthily.

Best way is make as much of your own food as you can, get a few books; I find the GI/GL Counter by Winnie (Wynnie?) Chan is best for me but others like Carbs & Calls which shows pictures of foods on a plate (size of plate/dishes are given). Not keen myself but both can be bought "pocket" sized. If you were referring to the avocado, "fruit" being high in carbs, they are quite low and higher in fat. If you don't have a meter yet that's the way forward. Test pre meals and post 2hrs....guessing being on insulin you do tho. I've heard people say that being on insulin you can pretty much eat what you like so long as you balance it? Can't say as I'm diet only....which got me out of prediabetic to "normal" HbA1c but as you say, healthy eating is the way. Welcome to the thread by the way

D... chicken, yellow summer squash with butter and parmesan; 0.35 oz 70% cocoa dark chocolate
S... ham, pickle, cream cheese rolled up, pecans

Day 13. Woke up, but delayed breakfast for 2 hours, something I rarely do. Just before eating, I was shaking and checked my BG. It had spiked and I'd only had water. Same thing happened at lunch, BG spike before eating. It's as if my body began utilizing my fat stores. By dinner, my body had calmed down. It seems every couple of days my body responds in a new way to the LCHF diet.

This morning I saw a link to the DietDoctor.com website so checked it out. I watched his interview with Jay Wortman, M.D. Loved it!

Oh, dear. Been down to 4.3 a few times myself but not felt any ill effects. Take care, good excuse for a treat ;)
