Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Please, please tell me,........... it was not liver. ;-)
You did my head in yesterday with your liver and onions comment!
Haven't had it for ages.
When in Manchester I go to a place called Johnies cafe and have the tastiest liver and onions on the planet.
I read your comment and fancied jumping in the car and driving off a hundred miles and more just to sit there and have some.
I think I might be extra sensitive to advertising!

Good morning all,

Haven't posted for a while but just wanted to share with you some good news. Firstly, for the past few weeks, I have not had a fasting reading above the 4's, varying from 4.2-4.9. Even my after meal readings have never been above 6.5. I am very pleased with this! Secondly, I went for my annual blood test this morning. Normally the nurse has trouble finding a vein and it is soooo painful, lots of bruising too. This time, in straight away and not painful at all! My tip-lots of water, keep warm and let your arm hang floppy by your side while waiting in reception, worked a treat. Thirdly and possibly the best bit, after fasting since 9pm last night and my trip to the doctors, I was 4.8 on my return!

I am normally quite well controlled but do struggle with morning readings, so this is a real triumph for me. The only thing I can put it down to is I have lost a few stubborn pounds that I had been trying to lose for ages, and I've been seeing a chiropractor. My diet is fairly light in the day (but includes good fats) and for tea I have a larger meal of meat or fish with loads of veg, followed by dark chocolate or full fat yoghurt before bed. I don't take any meds but have been taking a probiotic, 1000mg vitamin C and magnesium every day. I also started taking my antihistimine again a few days ago. I haven't been exercising massively due to pain issues but I do physio exercises and gentle walking every day. I have also been sleeping fairly well.

Sorry for long post but I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully help others who may be struggling.

I have high hopes for the results next week - last time my HBA1C was equiv to 5.5, I am massively hoping for a 4 something this time.

Tonight, my other half is taking me out for a long overdue date night, I think I might celebrate with a glass of wine! Well done me, am patting myself on the back as I type!:joyful:

Wishing you all good results too and most importantly a very happy weekend;)
Excellent news!

Just looked at your results @vit90 , it looks like you're very nearly there - not far to go now. Your history is very similar to mine - I started out with hba1c at 9% and weighed 13 stone in 2011. Our other results look quite similar at first glance too. It's nice to feel as though we're not on this journey alone, isn't it?

Thanks :) Still lacking in 4s but this evening was quite cheering; had a 500 calorie evening meal (salmon and assorted veg cooked with garlic, leeks, mushrooms and Worcester sauce). About 20g carbs. I measured 5.1 before the meal and 5.8 2 hours later.

85 mg/dl or 4.72 mmoles/l , higher result most probably because of increased protein, 25% of macro nutrients instead of the normal 20% .

6 this morning on strip from batch 44 so may have been lower. Don't know how as I was awake at 2am covered in hives and burning. Going to have to start taking my antihistamine in the evening as exercise and warmth seem to make it worse.
Not nice... better soon...

Have a safe trip, my wife & I will be neighbours, sort of, beginning of May, we are in Dubai for our 24th wedding anniversary.

Any tips appreciated.
Congratulations.. :joyful: Your break couldn't come at a better time really, you've been through so much lately... Enjoy it.. the weather will be kind in May... Don't miss the Burj al Khalifa - sit on the terrace in the evening and wait for the music and the fountains to start - fabulous... Mall of the Emirates has a ski slope - you can put your winter clothes on and play in the snow - or just look at everyone skiing through the glass.. amazing... So many shopping malls full of lovely things... Tea at the Burj al Arab is hugely expensive, but check it out online... it's so worth it and it's the only way to get into that fabulous hotel and look around... next door to it is the Madinat Jumeirah, which is an indoor 'market'... so beautiful and just full of lovely restaurants - Trader Vic's is cocktail heaven and lovely inside.... you can walk for hours in there... Gosh, there's so much to see and do... the beaches are lovely... There's a trip down The Creek in a dhow at night, and Dubai is like a huge Christmas tree - usually they feed you very well on the boats... I will get in touch with a friend there and see what she can come up with - we used to be there every month but don't have any projects there at the moment, and the place changes every day... ;) It really is lovely and the restaurants are lush... Don't forget to do a Friday 'brunch'... ahhh, if you like bubbly, that is... :) It comes non-stop, so you have to gird your loins a bit... Friday is the first day of the weekend out this way you see... Saturday is also a day off, so everywhere will be packed... if you like people and noise it is fantastic - every nation under the sun represented.... I love Dubai, but we prefer to live here in our 'village'... You can camp out in the desert too, but I never wanted to do that, however luxurious... I spend too much time working in it... :) The desert at night is stunning though... I do hope you'll have a wonderful anniversary trip...

That's a fantastic result. Well done. Out of interest that equates to 6.5mmol/L which is within your recent fasting readings - 6.2 – 5.6 – 5.7 – 5.4 – 5.7 – 6.2, taking into account a very small sample set.
You are so good at this SKS.. thank you for that... :)

5.7 this morning so breakfast took me up to 7:0 - didn't get to sleep until after 2am....ended up getting up having a brew and a snack.....
Dinner am still waiting to test but had a sort of frittata made with mushrooms and chickpeas fried with olive oil and peanut butter. 2 eggs and a goodly helping of Red Leicester cheese. Was stuffed - shouldn't have eaten it all but it was tasty :hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry:
Why aren't you sleeping? Poorly?

5.1 this morning. That's good seeing as I had a small slice of low GI bread at 8.pm last night

Well done loulou nice when all the hard work pays off isn't it? :D:D:singing:
Cool... :cool::)

Nothing to report for yesterday or today....my Codefree that was acting very strange even though I tried two new batteries finally died on me Wednesday evening! New one on the way but couldn't have it delivered before Saturday as nobody would be home for the postie! Another day at the office then an actual weekend off:)
Enjoy your well-earned weekend Kimbo... :)

4.9 this morning. A little concerned about my left knee slight sting from jogging.

:)
Rest it for a day maybe... or two... not worth aggravating it really... :)

6.3 this morning after a bedtime reading of 5.8.
That seems to be my trend too... my liver dumps every morning almost... It's still not a frightening number though... Are you feeling better? If you don't sleep properly it affects your whole day...
