meringue or marshmallow?
Beige shoe leather, really... what a shame... maybe I should cook it fast, unlike proper meringue... sigh... It was worth a try... I'll research it first I think... :( I tried the big green thing first... don't know if it's because I have all apple stuff or what, but couldn't do it... techno-bimbo...

Big green thing?
Shame it didn't work. Will try it out for microwave meringue, see how that does....
ASilly me... The green button :facepalm

B: Kippers! Tesco cook-in-the-bag with butter + more butter. Delish. Mrs D had her cereal early because she hates the smell of fish first thing :***:.
L: Leftovers soup made of lamb stock, celery, chestnut puree and puy lentils. The lentils stayed whole and I hope are better for me than the mushy red ones. Also nice nutty taste.
D: Fairly dry chicken curry and coconut dahl made with grated cauli, plus raita. Mrs D will have rice, poppadoms & banana in the dahl while I have broccoli and a bigger helping of curries ;)
Later perhaps : fresh strawberries & raspberries with some (thawed out) blueberries & double cream

B: late today due to blood tests, so I had Greek yoghurt and raspberries, black coffee
L: chicken wrapped in bacon and mushy peas. Started feeling hungry mid afternoon, think it was due to lack of fat
D: Cold poached salmon with olives and feta cheese, and four baby toms. Will have yoghurt berries and cream later

You can do mushy peas! Oh well, without fish & chips I suppose there's no point in wishing ...

Went to bed last night on 7.3 and woke at 10.0!

4 streaky bacon and a hard boiled egg, post 7.7

Savoy cabbage with tsp of mustard and butter, 6 sprouts, few spoons of soya yoghurt with coconut & 4 small chunks of coconut, post 7.1

Fillet of sea bass with salad and shallots
Pudding was the wife's attempt at the ginger cake, used only half the amount of palm sugar and coconut flour instead, came out as a crumbled mess, tasty though :) will test in 2 hrs

B. All bran with ss milk, one boiled egg. Had early as hungry.

L. Bit of a mismatch as my experiment on freezing lettuce informed me exactly why you shouldn't freeze lettuce :meh: so had some chicken breast, a boiled egg, 2 slices of luncheon meat and mayo. Had early as had breakfast early..

D. Starving  but did not succumb:angelic: to anything til dinner. Shepherds pie with cauli topping. Was going to test at 2h but at 1.25h had jelly and cream :D

The shepherds pie was really hot and took me about half an hour to eat. Do you test 2h after the first bite, somewhere in the middle or 2h after the last bite?

B : low sugar jelly pot. Glass of water.

Snack : low sugar jelly pot. Glass of water.

L : Pack of chicken tikka satay sticks. Glass of water.

D : Tuna mayo with red onion and lettuce. Baked mascarpone. Bottle of flavoured water.

It's 2 hrs after you start eating.
The peak is often (especially with carbs) is often at around 45 mins to an hour (carbs digest quicker than fat or protein).
But the general rule is to test at 2 hours, so that you have a standard record that you can compare with your other tests.

Wow!

I am very impressed by your self discipline.

But I have to ask, is that sustainable?

I really don't want to rain on your parade, because you are obviously going for this with enthusiasm, but my experience has been that skipping breakfast just makes my blood glucose rise steadily all morning, as my liver dumps glucose to compensate for the lack of breakfast.

I can stop that happening with a very small low carb snack, like a babybel, or teasp of peanut butter. Doesn't have to be a huge breakfast.

Do you have a meter? I'm not saying that your body will react the same as mine, but it might be worth checking it out...

Wow I love reading this thread....been In Bed since Friday Full of cold and feeling sorry for myself and I've eaten a load of low carb rubbish lol. But trying to get back on track today

B - salami mini crustless quiche
L - bbq chicken with cucumber no cheese coleslaw
D - salmon in lemon & ginger with broccoli followed by Stracciatella cake with strawberries and cream

It seems to work for me. I have a jelly pot for breakfast and although that is essentially flavoured water, it does have 1g or so of carb so there's something there.

I do have a meter but I've not used it in years. Do you think I might get a spike from a glucose dump?

Lots of us do...

Have you heard of dawn phenomenon? (Forgive me if I'm teaching a grandmother to suck eggs!)
It is when the blood glucose drops a bit during the night, and the liver releases glucose to 'top things up'.

The way to find out if it happens to you is to test at bedtime, and on waking.
If your BG has risen overnight, you are experiencing a liver dump (aka dawn phenomenon)

The liver can also dump glucose into the bloodstream at other times such as after heavy exercise, stress and similar.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with experiencing a liver dump - but in my case, I get a significant dawn phenomenon, which i dislike, because it is large enough to affect my hba1c.

So I try and minimise it - by having a small snack first thing on waking (a Brazil nut, or a baby bel)
And following up with a protein breakfast.
If I didn't do that (especially if I missed breakfast) my DP liver dump would be inflating my BG from about 4am until my first food, whatever time that would be.

I've never heard of that before. I'll give that a go tonight.

If my BG is the same or lower when I wake up, is that a good sign?

You may need xanthan gum with coconut flour to get it to hold together -

Breakfast: usual porridge mix with soya milk
Dinner: Tuna mayo with half can of sweetcorn on bed of shredded lettuce
Tea: Pasty and green beans and piece of my ginger cake (Low GI/GL doesn't spike me) pasty provided by friend who was also doing chips .... OMG was 8.6 at 2 hours, 7.7 at 2.5 hours (going down nicely) hungry so had lump of cheese - another half hour back UP to 9.1 - retest 9.2 ....:***::***::***: -

MY turn to cook tomorrow night......:angelic:
