By a Pole I hope then. Chances are it probably was if you listen to ukip there are no poles left in Poland!
I don't listen to UKIP.
A lot of people forget the Poles have been here a very very long time.
The Poles flew RAF bombers and spitfires too.

And the Czechs - one of my favourites books of all time is freedom in the air by hamish Ross.

When I first came to Dundee for Uni my landlady was WW2 Pole, amazing woman... Fife is full of them from that period... just great folk.
Though Bud should be Czech...

I consider myself to be an Englishman living in Wales but then ... what is an Englishman really?
While Europe had stuff going on this island wasn't much more than a giant coast to coast forest and timber supply for a long time.
Then as spaces were cleared people from all over Europe slowly arrived ... you name it they came from there ... and there too and there as well.
Vikings Romans French people coming with sword and fire.
We the English are a mongrel race made up of everyone around us.
This place has always been immigrant central and guess what ... immigrant central ruled the world.

5.3 am.... after before dinner 5.2, 2 hrs after 5.2.... first time I've had the same reading before and after.... all three a bit lower than post DN visit.....

I have no connection with Poland other than I like their sausages!

Good Afternoon all. 4.7 this morning - Yay! Am very confused though, as the past couple of months now I have been experiencing lower fasting readings in the 4's, however, this is not "normal" for me. I am worried as my evening readings are now higher than usual (e.g around 6). There seems to have been a shift and my higher readings have now changed to evenings and lower to mornings. Only thing I can attribute it to is possible hormonal changes. Does anyone else have experience of this please and is it a cause for concern?

Happy Easter Saturday!

Best thing to do with UKIP, not listen to them.

Not tested for a day and a bit as I was waiting for new strips to arrive. This morning was 7.7, a bit high for my liking but weekends are topsy turvy for me with meals and sleep times.

as a newbie where is the best place on here to ask random questions...like I want porridge for breakfast, can I use something to sweeten it & what's best..I have sugar...honey or golden syrup..at the moment I do not have any powdered sweetener x
Porridge itself may be enough to raise your blood sugars too high because of the carbohydrates in it..... you may be best changing to a cooked breakfast like bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, omelette. If you DO have porridge do you make it with water or milk? if you use milk try unsweetened soya milk instead.... or Almond milk (also unsweetened)..... pinhead oats or oatmeal may not be so bad for you as rolled oats.... they seem to release the carbs more slowly. SOME people can't seem to manage any amount of carbs especially for breakfast though their tolerance increases throughout the day.

I was only in the pre-diabetic range of diagnosis and diet change has led me to having a normal HbA1c..... Most of us would suggest a lower carbohydrate diet - some people like the book Carbs & Calories and I use The GI GL Counter by Wynnie Chan - the first of these two books is available in pocket size or a bigger version and has pictures of meals shown on a plate (it gives the plate size) so you don't need to weigh stuff out but I gave mine away and just use the other...... I bought mine off eBay for under a fiver.... I think I got the carbs and cals off Amazon through a DUK website link....

I guess I haven't really answered your question about sweetener but if I sweeten mine I use Jordan's Skinny syrups in lots of flavours - sold for drinks/cocktails but also nice in porridge (if you can tolerate it without your bs going too high) but I know that you would also have to buy that too....

Again, if you do have porridge make sure you weigh your oats out - I tend to make my own mix with nuts and seeds and a small amount of dried fruit (but best you don't add that yet) along with unsweetened bran sticks and some oats. My weighed amount is around 70-80 grams - but that is my own personal tolerance....

I know there's such a lot to take in to start with so hope I've not bombarded you too much.

Hope this helps .....

I've even got a supply of cheese, ham and corned beef in the fridge at work for emergencies! ! Forward planning ;)
Always helps ;) - think being organised and prepared is the key..... as well as knowing what you are doing - you're defo a "one to watch" for any newbies

Back from Thailand yesterday mid-morning after 32 hours of traveling and 1of 3 flights that took over 14 hours from Singapore! Tested myself in the middle of the afternoon (remember I forgot to bring my meter with me!) and it was 6.3. This morning 5.8 and two hours after breakfast (sausage, bacon, eggs and mushrooms p;us half a guava brought back with me) and... 8.0). Not sure if that's OK or bad really all things considered. I trued my best to avoid carbs while away but Thai cooking probably has a lot of sugar in it. But avoided most noodles and rice and had no sweet drinks or ice cream, etc. I did have some of the local fresh fruit though (not quite ripe mangoes and guavas mainly, but not bananas). I did snack a lot on peanuts. I have put on about 4lbs in the 10 days I have been away and am hoping some of that is water, but I did manage to do about 2 miles of walking most days I was in Thailand. It's good to be back!
I can only think the guava might have been responsible especially if ripened in the sun..... don't have my book handy so can't check carbs for that.

You are obviously diet aware and going 10 days without meter won't have done you too much harm I'm sure.... and also that you will lose those extra pounds again once you are back in your normal routine.....

Hi Baruney
Hope you don't mind me saying but I don't think this thread is quite the place to be talking politics..... maybe if you start your own thread to cover your election views?
