I have just been diagnosed with type 2 and this was after a 2month illness when I was using increased steroid inhalers {I am asthmatic} and was on a course of steroids for a while. My HbA1c reading was 50. I had no symptoms of diabetes whatsoever, and no family history. My blood pressure is normal and I'm not overweight I eat healthily and I don't smoke. Could this diagnosis be wrong? I bought a meter and tested my fasting blood sugar this morning was 5.1.
Thank you in advance for any replies. Smudge120

Hi and welcome. Steroids commonly cause raised blood suagr which results in diabetes being diagnosed. Once your steroids are stopped, you should find your blood sugar returns to normal or near that. Whether you are still considered a T2 if that happens I leave to you. Your fasting sugar level was brilliant. See what your HBa1C is at the next GP appointment (3 months?) and take it from there.

Many thanks for that Daibell, my lady friend's daughter who is a GP reckons that steroids can stay in your system for up to 3 months. Time will tell. Thanks again
