LCHF Restart

Sadly, I might be doubting your 5.1.

If you are complying with your low carb strategy, without deviations, then it really is looking like you may need more medical support, perhaps even shorter term. Perhaps some of your final stress is impacting on your score so; who knows, but it feels those scores can't possibly be helping with academic performance at this critical time for you.

Akindrat, I'm no medic, and clearly the foregoing is just my observational opinion, but is there anyone you can call to talk this through today?

I've just only seen your post @AndBreathe and here is my 5.1 at 8am. I saw my gp today and he advised me that my BG levels will start to normalise when my assignments are over and not to worry. He also asked me to consider gastric band as he said 'it would give me a good chance of curing my diabetes and dramatically reduce my cardiovascular risks'. He also said that I should be started on SGLT 2 if the GLP 1 treatment is not effective.

Also I haven't been able to talk to anyone today as all my friends have been busy with assignments and two of my friends ended up having breakdowns this afternoon. Plus I'm still doing academically well.

I apologise if you thought I disbelieved what your meter said; I meant, I might have tested a couple more times to verify it. If you also did that, then that really is a ginagerous jump!

I hope your GP is right about your levels, and hopefully you may be able to avoid the next step up the mess tree.

As regards gastric band surgery; that isn't a decision to take lightly, as even the surgery doesn't work for everyone. A while back, I posted about a friend of mine having one fitted (in the U.S. As it happens), but that whilst she did lose a tremendous amount of weight because she could actually eat very little, she chose to eat liquidised Mars bars, curries, and all other manner of questionable choices. Her end point was being malnourished, but thin and I'll, then she put all the weight back on again. What a waste of time, effort and money; not to mention her health.

For some people it works very well, and I understand it is pretty successful in sorting out T2 in lots of people due to the restricted diet they end up consuming. But, it does nothing to address eating habits and food choices hick clearly impact on the longer terms life.

I'm not advising you to do anything t all here, just pointing out it isn't a decision to take lightly, or without consideration of how you might feel about it in 10 years time, when you can still only eat small amounts of food, or risk gastric upset and pain.

I seem to recall at least one thread about weight loss surgery in the past, so it might be worth doing a search?

Continued good luck young man. Where a while ago you seemed a bit rudderless in your approach to your condition, you now seem to have more purpose, and better access to at least some of the support you need at the moment. Stick with it.

I've just only seen your post @AndBreathe today. I've been so busy with uni work, that i've done nothing but writing my assignments with no distractions from fb games or looking at the posts on here and i've finished my dissertation!! I've lost quite a bit of weight and was under 21 stone. sadly since i admitted myself to the hospital last Sunday night/early Monday morning and after being on 6 bags of fluids my weight on Tuesday afternoon went up to 22 stone 9 pounds. My BS levels are slowly coming back to normal and i've been switched from lixisenatide injections to invokana tablets. The doctors said my BS levels were a combination of stress, dehydration and poor diet.

My parents are also routing for me to lose weight and if I can get down to 20 stone by my birthday, my mum has promised that she will quit smoking and start eating LCHF foods. I'm going to be seriously testing which foods affects my BS levels the most, as i've got like +400 testing strips and a new meter.

Well done on finishing your dissertation, but what a shame the focus you gave it led to, or at least contributed to another hospital admission. Do have have exams to take too, or are you now finished? I recall, in the dark ages, when I was a student, finishing my studies and ending up, instead of euphoric, feeling quite down about it. I felt like the end of an era. Little did I really know at the time that I would still have lots of studying, exams, papers and the like ahead of me!

Anyway, hopefully you can now focus on your health. If you were dehydrated, so of your gain will be replacing the lost fluid, and you may find you lose a bit of your gain again quite quickly as your electrolytic balance sorts itself out.

Could you maybe persuade your Mum to join you on LCHF now? That would probably help you both, as she would immediately have a heightened interest in your diet, and a degree of self interest, to find delicious foods to eat. She could then give up smoking when you breach the weight floor? She's setting herself a bit of a gargantuan target if she's going to change her eating style and give up smoking at the same time! I wouldn't like to be living in the same house as anyone doing that, for a few weeks at least!

Curiously, I was thinking about you only yesterday, as I was talking to a young woman just finishing up her under-grad studies, with a view to doing a masters. Have you had any thoughts what you would like to be doing with your week day 9-5s from now on?

Welcome back.

No exams, just 4,000 words to write on 2 topics by June 19th. However, I will be doing them at home with my parents as I'm finally leaving uni to go back home. I'm now back down to being under 21 stone :happy: as I weighed myself before I handed in my gym key this morning :(:(.

I don't think I can convince my mum to join LCHF right now. At the moment, i'm trying to get myself a job either as a admin assistant, healthcare worker or support worker. I've applied for over 50 jobs since May and have not heard back from any of them :(:(.
