So I've been diabetic for 9 years, and have had pretty bad control from time to time. I was recently admitted into hospital because I was in such poor control and had a fear of hypos (which I have overcome) and now my control is perfect. But I seemed to have gained weight, gone from size 6 to size 8. I'm worried I will continue getting bigger. My total daily basal is 28 units, and I today i have started a new diet where I only eat 30-40g carb and stick to 1,200 calories. I'm hoping this will get my weight back down, as I am so unhappy right now. Is it true that type 1 diabetics on insulin WILL gain weight no matter what purely because they are on insulin... ??? I also do a run on the treadmill every day for as long as I can, usually 20-30 mins straight running.
but I have been exercising regularly for six months now to improve my fat:muscle ratio, and one of the things that has happened is that that my insulin sensitivity has risen, which means that I am gradually reducing my basal, and my insulin:carb ratio has gone down a bit. But initially I did put on quite a lot of weight, as I did what I described to you above!
