I was a little bored today, so decided to do an experiment with a slice of German Rye Bread (from M&S)

Had a 50g slice, toasted with some butter. (about 20g of Carb)

Then took blood measurements over the next 4 hours.

Would you think these are acceptable, or is this bread a no no ?

BG at 1 hr 5.8
BG at 2 hr 6.8
BG at 3 hr 7.1
DG at 4 hr 5.5

If your pre meal blood glucose level is around normal, then yes, they look good.

Thanks.

Unfortunately it was like eating a piece of cardboard, so I probably won't bother again, but at least I know I could if I wanted.

Any bread from a supermarket is going to be well iffy... it's how they do it that is wrong... I had to give up on making sourdough rye... which was part of the problem in the first place... it's probably the only carb I miss making...

Looks OK to me!

I have noticed for me flat breads seem to cause less less of a spike in blood glucose that risen breads.
From my trips to Italy I have picked up the custom of eating a Piadina ( a wrap with low fat cheese, good quality ham and optional salad greens) I also find fried potato scones work for me.

M&S do a lovely Rye bread which is as soft as Hovis and really delicious.

There is a thread about high protein rolls from lidl they are soooo tasty and 10g carb for whole one, satisfies my bread craving brilliantly and they are pretty big x

I bought a couple... and as it's been so long since I've actually eaten bread..... I didn't eat them..... mad and bad.

I had the same experience, even though I grew up and lived mostly on sourdough bread, but these have a weird taste even for twisted taste-buds...
