Hi one and all,

I am type 1(GAD POSITIVE) but only on 1 metformin a day with bg averaging 5.5 and hb down to 5.7.On fairly low carb of less than 60 units a day.

My brother has sent me an article on the health benefits of raw organic apple cider vinegar. The article states the possibility of reducing bg levels significantly as it naturally lowers levels them in a similar way to metformin whilst increasing your potassium levels and helping the body to become more alkaline.

Anyway long intro but does anyone out there use this vinegar(I can see it online at Holland & Barratt) and if so how successful have you been?

Also is there any benefit to getting my cpetise level re-tested off my specialist to see if it has gone up or down. I think maybe I am dreaming(false hope no doubt)(or maybe hope I have been misdiagnosed as type 1 instead of 2) of reversing my condition which has only occurred in recent months at the age of 51.

cheers

Hi Nybrid

Personally no, but I do have a non-diabetic work colleague who's doing LCHF as a lifestyle choice and trying to prevent glucose spikes and he uses it all the time and thinks it's great. He's got a 5L container of the stuff under his desk.

thanks urbanracer.
My readings are quite good at the moment but If they start going up as predicted I may well give it a try as anything natural seems to make good sense

Personally I suspect that drink will be having little or no effect on your diabetes; do look for the scientific evidence behind it. It sounds like your 'T1' is currently not very advanced and with a bit of luck will only advance slowly for you. I believe the GAD test is fairly reliable. If you are happy with 60gm/day and with those excellent BS readings I wouldn't bother with another c-peptide at this time but it might be worth it if the BS starts to rise

Thanks for the advice Daibell you pretty much confirmed what I already thought in my mind but wanted more opinions.
Thanks and take care,
