Hi everyone. It has been quite some time since I last posted. Quite a few things have been going on and I have just been getting on with life as we all do. Last year was particularly difficult as my Mum was very ill and she sadly passed away last September. Prior to that my BS readings (I'm T2) were gradually rising and my GP put it down to stress and irregular mealtimes etc. I suggered with reflux which was made worse when eating carbs and I had to cut carbs completely out of my diet. Drastic I know but it helped the reflux and my readings dropped from 13-19+ mmol to 4-6 mmol. My GP reduced my meds to 2 Gliclazide/1 Sitagliptin per day. Unfortunately when my health improved the carbs crept back in and the BS readings went slightly up. I tried to keep low carbing and high fat and it worked for a few months. After that no matter what I ate the bloods were reading always above 10mmol (fasting) and going really high or very low. No rhymn or reason as far as I could see. Back to GP who increased Glic to 3 per day and several months later increased Glic again to 4 per day which I am currently taking. The readings are still high even though I have once again drastically reduced carbs (1 slice of wholemeal bread per day/ 1 potato a day). Eating mostly protein and fats. I know this is too long-winded and I apologize but I am just so down-hearted about the whole thing I don't know what to do any more. I have just read about LADA and am wondering if I might fit into this category? My father/grandmother/cousins/aunts all are either T1 or T2 so perhaps that has a bearing. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read all this and I would really appreciate any advice or guidance as to where I go from here. I was going to add a smiley face but I don't know how lol.

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum you have my deepest sympathy.

I'm sorry I'm not going to be much help with advice I'm what they affectionately term a Newbie here on this site. You have had an awful lot going on so its no wonder things have taken a downward turn. On the plus side you've done really well in the past so there's no reason why you can't get back on track but at the moment you're still grieving so you need to give yourself some time.

I can help with the smilie faces though! If you click on more options below where you're typing you will notice a line of icons running along the top of your message and there you will find the smilie face, first click the smilie face at the top of the screen and all the faces will appear at the bottom. :) :p

Take one day at a time and in no time at all you'll be back to those low numbers! Good luck x

Good morning Rosserk. Thank you for your kind words. Yes I am still missng my Mum terribly and I do know it takes a long time.

I think it is just disappointing when you think you've cracked it (diabetes) and then it goes pear-shaped lol. My problem is I am very slim naturally and so any drop in food intake has a major impact on my weight and this gets me down. Trying to find food that will keep weight on and not have sugar in it is proving difficult. Thanks again - and I'm going to try a smilie now lol
Yea!!!

I think you definitely need either push on your doctor or get further referral because it is really dangerous to have such high readings for months in a row. Good luck as with NHS you get nowhere if you are not all over them.

Hi Rosserk. I typed out a reply yesterday - added a smilie and all - and it just disappeared lol. Just finding time now to try again.
Thank you for your reply. I agree I am still grieving - it will take a long time to adjust. I am still trying the LCHF diet and my readings have improved slightly but still not good. Appt made with GP just in case something has gone wrong.;)

Hello Bluetit. I have just recently become aware of type 1.5/LADA and it is a worry. I hope to hear from someone who has this type so I can get more info. I struggle enough with being T2 as I find a lot of the information I am given by dietitians/Drs etc is conflicting and I end up just doing "my own thing" - which obviously isn't working now! It scares me when I get high readings each time I check, irrespective of what I have eaten, that I tend to just stop testing. Thanks for taking time to reply. Kind regards.

TanyaEmily - thanks for your input. I have an appt with my GP on Friday next week and will hopefully not be fobbed off at this visit as I was last time. I can't take any more Glic as I am already on 4 per day so might be looking at a change of meds. Best wishes :)

Hi TanyaEmily. My appt is this Friday (31st) so I have lots questions to ask thanks to the Forum. Will keep you posted. Hoping to get back on the right track again. ;)
