read dr bernsteins book, eating very low carb and hardly any protein (dont much like meat) , still getting really high readings. Cant reduce lantus as usually higher in e morning than at night (13 units) and im injecting just as much insulin at the moment trying to correct high sugars. Today was 12.5 breakfast, before zumba class 8.6, after the class 13.2, an hour later 12 again, then before evening meal 14.3. Very depressed. Ive been diabetic for 25 years and understand it well, or at least I did until now!!!! HELP please.

Have you checked ketones to see if you are in ketosis yet? Otherwise you could be running on glucose from gluconeogenesis.

Havent checked ketones as I dont have the necessary testing strips. As for the gluconeogenesis, what to do about that? Im very confused as upto now my control hasnt been too bad. Running much higher than before. The only plus to all this is Im getting very few hypos which I used to get almost daily. Everyone else seems to find this a great diet so I'm feeling very disappointed.

With readings that high ketosis is less likely than DKA for a T1....

I would suggest trying split doses of levemir rather than lantus.

You don't say all your readings or times of injections or whether you have done any basal checks. So it may well be that like me in the mornings (I'm levemir) I need to give a 2.5 unit of act rapid on getting up without any food just to stop waking phenomenen.

I eat only one meal a day and very little carbs.. My dinner tonight was mackeral salad and a small bowl of fresh fruit. The fresh fruit giving me my carbs for the day besides the milk in my copious coffees. I also have nuts tonight...(not peanuts!!)

Tomorrow it will be the copious salad with salmon and a homemade pecan bite as I have the gym so need loads of nuts n oils.

I test al least 8-10 times a day, split my doses of levemir. Have just come off pump after 5 years.

I bolus for eggs as 4g of carb. I count everything in my salads. Generally I end up about 50-60g carb a day from salads/fruit plus milk on top. Not a very low carber but have ate pretty much this way all my diabetic 30+ years.

Without injection times or pre meals, after meals, night time readings and how often you inject lantus it is very hard to give you much help but I would add... Don't give up ... It is tweaking...

It would be worth logging you food in myfitnesspal to see what your daily carbs/fat/protein are.
