What to drink?

Hey everyone!! :)

Just wondering what you like to drink when you're out and about? I feel like the only thing I can drink when out for a meal or something is diet coke or diet Pepsi. Whether it be alcoholic or a soft drink, what do you choose to drink when you're out?
 
Hi I will have a nice glass of red,when I was diagnosed the DN said" whatever you do don't let it rule your life" it took me a while to realise what she meant and I don't really believe a glass of wine is going to me any harm so cheers
 
My favourite things to drink when I am out are water( can't beat it, really) and red wine( but that is an acquired taste which you may not have acquired yet. I would not drink any drink with the prefix'diet' as the chemicals used to make these drinks palatable, have an effect on your hunger mechanism and insulin response that you likely don't want,

Otherwise, you could always dilute ginger beer with water so that it looks more interesting. Or you could flaunt your individuality by claiming that nothing but Earl Grey tea is worth drinking.!
Actually, some cocktails, like gin and tonic, or brandy and dry ginger are supposed to be low in carbs
 
Slimline Tonic/Soda & Bitter Lemon drinks are nice and refreshing, if it's alcoholic drinks then red wine has little effect on my bg levels or I'll have a pint of Guinness with my meal and take into consideration the carb content when bolusing.
 
Depends what I'm doing and who I'm with (and what time it is). I might just have a cuppa or a sparkling mineral water, or I'll have a red wine, gin and slim or a brandy . . . Yes, I did say OR!

Funnily enough, I did just read something about the diet drinks and what it can do to you before I posted this question that were saying similar things as you have just said.

I may have to start drinking more water when out, actually. (As you said, I haven't acquired my taste for red wine yet, haha.)

The sugar substututes affect people in different ways. I have no problem with either the taste or them triggering hunger or whatever, so I'm happy to have diet coke or whatever.

Yes likewise @Daibell, been type 1 for 33 (coming up 34 years) and have drank Diet/Slimline & No Added Sugar drinks without any issues.

Ah, okay! To be honest, I've never had a problem with diet drinks apart from getting a bit bored of just having diet Pepsi/coke... I was just a bit worried in case they were affecting me somehow.

Yes, lots of the diet drinks are sweetened with very nasty substances like aspartame!
 
On the alcolhol front red wine or bacardi and diet coke:)
I don't drink diet drinks at home because my gut feeling is they are not brilliant for you, however I do like a diet coke when I go out.
 
Champagne for a special occasion otherwise I'm a water snob lol. McDonald's in UK sells organic semi-skimmed milk and I've had that. Lofbergs coffee is in more places now but unsure whether it's the organic varieties in UK yet. Organic Earl Grey tea.
 
How bad is a Costa latte?
I love these but have been opting for tea, thinking it is better.

I love Costa lattes too! Sometimes I even choose a latte with their flavoured syrups as a treat but so far, they've never really had an affect on my sugar levels..

But tea is obviously better. Well done ;)
