Hi
I think you will all be fed up with my questions i have so many in my head.
Ok so low carbs and higher fats wont i put weight on? i have spent years looking for low fat options as i have a heart condition (i am not over weight) if i am to stay away from bread if i can what do i take to work for lunch, i hate salad.
Ooooh this so hard
Also had breakfast, weatbix tea spoon honey, semi milk blood 6.8 before 2hrs later 13.8 this has scared me its now 10.30am and i am starving but dont think i should eat till 12 ????

Ask all the questions you need to :)

When I was starting out, I continued to eat normally until I had gathered enough information to switch to a diet I could have without feeling too hungry. This only took a few days. Then I did a supermarket shop and got everything ready to go for the working week.

I think at the moment you are basing your meals around carbs. For me breakfast was the easiest meal to change- I have 3 scrambled eggs, with bacon and mushrooms.

No worries at all. You are asking the big questions and we can give you general answers but individuals vary.
No you won't put weight on if you truly cut the carbs and eat more fat. Fat doesn't make you fat in this instance.
I have a mild heart condition too but fat isn't making it any worse. LCHF on the other hand is making me more healthy all round.
Plus, fat satisfies. You need it to replace the carbs.
Give it a go as @CatLadyNZ says.

Hi Moe, only too glad to help, so ask away!

Breakfast cereals spike some people so stick to good old fashioned bacon and eggs if your body cannot cope with them.

I'm no expert but simply (for my own benefit), carbs give fats something to cling on to, remove the carbs and your body can process them more easily and many people lose weight on LCHF diets.

Fat doesn't make you fat carbohydrates do and the fats we eat are healthy fats. I was diagnosed 18 monthw ago & weighed 13st4lb in 3 months I dropped to 11st and still weigh the same today. Some people can tolerate cereal including me and I eat weetabix but it doesn't suit everyone, honey is a no no for most and full fat milk is better than ss as that has sugar added. Full fat dairy products are better because the 'low' versions have sugar in. The only way is to test everything you eat then test 2hrs later, keep a food diary of what is safe for you and a list of no no's and you will soon find the foods to suit your body and can then make your menu from them

I think you have learnt that Weetabix, honey and milk is going to be a no-no for you in future. That rise from 6.8 to 13.8 at 2 hours is far too much. It is best to try not to raise your levels more than 2mmol/l, ideally under 1.5mmol/l. What about a full fat Greek yogurt with 2 or 3 strawberries added for sweetness, or 3 or 4 raspberries? Or a soft boiled egg, or bacon and eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, cold meat or cheese? You could try the Weetabix again without the honey, with full fat milk (but not a lot) and a smaller portion? Test that out and see what happens. I suspect you will have to discard it, but you never know.

Low fat products are highly processed, and in themselves not good for you (too many plastic chemicals). Natural fats such as butter, cream, cheese, yogurts (unsweetened, plain ones), avocadoes, eggs, meat and fish, olive oil, are good for you and won't make you fat IF (and only IF) you drop the carbs.

I lost 30% of my weight by following a low carb diet with increased full fats, and also my cholesterol/lipids significantly improved and continue to do so.

Try weetabix with sweetner

Breakfast cereals are dangerous to diabetics blood glucose control they are nearly all carbohydrate, the original Wheetabix (not own brand or fancy types) is the lowest in sugars but it is carbohydrate . Complex starchy carrbohydrate hit slower than simpler sweet carbohydrates but the ramp up the blood glucose and tends to stay up longer.
Other breakfast cereals including normal Cornflakes are high in sugar.

I often take Aldi or Lidl Milled Lin Seed with Blueberries for breakfast, it lacks bulk but provides a high fibre high omega 3 replacement for cereal or toast followed by a couple of baby tomatoes and some cheese.
But the best low carb breakfast is sausage bacon and egg.

I've got a problem with my diabetes. The doctors have told me I'm in between a type 1 & 2 the problem is I cannot put any weight on I used to be 78kgs now I'm down to 65kgs. the question is could I start using weigh gain product or not ?

Plain Wheetabix is 69 percent Carbohydrate 4.4 percent of which is Sugar.
The Carbohydrate content number is starches + sugars doesn't count the good dietry fibre.
There are also of course sugars in the milk
When low carbing the aim is to eat food which is below 5 percent carbohydrate 10 percent acceptable and higher content acceptable in small amounts as treats.
Two Wheatbix (2x18 grams) even without milk contain more that twice the Carbohydrate of a 37.5 gram bar of Moser Roth dark Mouse au Chocolate.

I am not going to attempt to advise you what to eat but low càrb high fat diets aim to replace Carbohydrate with fats for energy.
My understanding is body builders increase the protein they eat in addition to increasing fats to help increase muscle mass.

You might be better starting a new thread on this in the low carb diet forum.

Be careful with any milk as it has sugars in the form of lactose,. Cream, however, only has very small quantities and so is a much better bet. Alternatively look for lactose free milk or nut milks such as almond milk - but watch for added sugars in this. Alpro make both options.

I wonder why the GP thinks you are between T1 and T2. If you are having problems trying to gain weight then you are likely to be late onset T1 i.e. T1? Why try to gain weight unless it is very low? Are you one any medication yet? If your weight really is low and assuming you are eating something then you may need something like Gliclazide and even insulin in the future to increase your insulin one way or another.
