Hi All...not sure if this is a daft question or not...but figure I'll ask it anyway.
Over the last couple of days I've been struggling to get my blood sugars at a sensible level. I woke up yesterday with a shocking FBS of 15.7 with apparently no rhyme nor reason and struggled to get it down all day. I was feeling quite nauseous so didn't really eat an awful lot...really only a couple of coffee's with cream and a small piece of cheese. In order to get BS to a normal level I did a few correction doses at the advice of my DN...because I wasn't really eating she advised a few small doses to bring it back into range but to keep testing and make sure I didn't drop too low. This seemed to work and by lunchtime I was down to 8.6, which although not great...I was reasonably happy with. I had low levels of ketones...1.5 according to the ketostix scale. Blood sugar remained reasonably stable for the duration of the day and when I went to bed it 8.9...did my normal basal dose...and again woke up with FBS of 15.0. Feel a little better than I did yesterday...no nausea which is good but despite repeating the DN's advice of small doses of insulin I'm still not seeing any significant drop in my BS...currently sitting at 13.8. So to get to my point...it's my understanding that you remain in ketosis so long as you stick to low levels of carbs and there are only low levels of insulin in your system. I'm assuming that all those tiny doses should have kicked me out of ketosis so despite the ketones in my system I shouldn't be at risk of DKA. Obviously I'm keeping close checks on my BS but at what point should I be worried?
