Thanks to everyone's advice I had my first low carb day yesterday. It was heaven. I wasn't trying to eat veg without the flavour of a little oil. Yummy food. This morning I noticed that I wasn't bloated (a curse that's always been upon me). Perhaps it was carbs bloating me out and not fat as I'd thought?

Onward and upward, preparing low carb breakfast.

The lack of bloating has been a blessing for me too :)

Congratulations and keep up the good work! If you start to feel a bit run down, don't forget the salt.

Well done and I'm so pleased you are already feeling some of the benefits! I have also found that carbs were causing bloating. Life is so much better without that :)

Thank you - just had a delicious breakfast but wondering what lunch will be as we are eating out. No carbs no meat no fish

Really? Bloating is so uncomfortable - I'd love to put an end to it

Oh yes, I used to suffer dreadful IBS/bloating/reflux prior to going low carb. For me it's a fermentable fibre issue - most starchy carbs have that, so eliminating them stopped the fermentation factory in my gut :)

I've been surprised how many vegs I can put away and not feel bloated as I've not eaten any "carbs" (tats, rice, bread, pasta).

OMG - after low carb, and delicious breakfast of omelette, mushroom, onion and grilled tomatoes at 8.30 I was dismayed to have a reading of 6 at 12.30!!! I'm normally only high in the a.m. (prob why I wake up singing and dancing). My partner (also pre) who I coerced into trying low carb, was 6.8 which is unheard of for him!

Lunch was avocado dip (homemade with chopped onion and tomato) and celery - I'll see what happens later!

These things happen, so don't get too stressed by it all.

I had a fasting BG of 6.6 this morning, which is stratospherically high for me but was probably due to eating too much Protein (and Calories :arghh:) yesterday, only had a handful of Blueberries and Raspberries with Double Cream for breakfast, and my BG was still at 6.5 at midday.

These things happen occasionally, and you will be back to normal soon no doubt.

I hope so. What BG level should I be aiming for? I used to think that around 5.5 was good but I'm not too sure now.

Why do you believe 6 is high?

Before lunch? I would expect to see 4.5 - 5.4 before lunch. What is too high? I have a really high fasting level in the a.m. - around 8 due to the Dawn Phenomenon. I had a three month thingy test and was absolute borderline. I thought the average shouldn't be higher than around six which means it should be a lot lower most of the time. Or have I got this all wrong?

No, but you might be rushing things.

If your HbA1c was "borderline" then it will have been in the high 6 range, so that is your "normal" over the period tested.

Eating Low Carb should get those numbers down, but it will take a few weeks to achieve.
