Insulin pump choice

Hi i was hopeing to get the omnipod but after speaking with thw DSN today this is not available at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Good news is my first pump start date (not sure what this is but think it is to choose what pump i want) has been put forward to October 12th instead of the backend of November. The choices of pumps I can get are -:

Medtronic - Minimed 640G

Accuchek Insight

Animas - Vibe

I asked why the omnipod was not available and the DSN said it was down to cost???
I was on the pump cost comparison page and told her the costs of all the pumps on there, needless to say she sounded a little suprised.

SO can any of you pumpers who are or have used the pumps that I can choose from give me any kind of review etc on these pumps?

I have had a little dig around on youtube but atm I,m off on the sick due to other health related problems and I am finding it a little hard to put my full attention into it ( I,m not being lazy honest ) just have a million and one things to sort out before next week and trying to find out what i have wrong with me from the hospital but no luck as of yet ( I do know what is wrong kinda but want a sit down and talk with the consultants involved as I was told some stuff while still in the operating room ) and I could not quite fully take this in, also the other problem was misdiagnosed at first.
 
No advice on the pumps offered @Gaz-M but just want to say good luck with the test results, also hope your pump sessions go well and you make the right choice.
 
After reading the reviews on the insight I personally would not touch with a barge poll.

I have the animas Vibe it does the job with no frills or dramas easy to programme and you can use the Dexcom transmitter and sensors with it.
 
I had the same pump choice. I went with the Insight first of all but hated it so much I gave it back. It was a total faff.

I then had to decide between the Medtronic and the Vibe, and after a huge amount of thought went with the Animas Vibe. I'm very pleased I did - I really like it :)

It takes Luer sets so you're not so tied to the Animas sets.
It's simple and intuitive to use
It's waterproof
It looks good and has a really nice feel to it
It has a sturdy clip to attach to your belt, etc, whereas the clips on some pumps are quite poor
 
yeah the water proof thing is a plus, one of the reasons I watned the omnipod tbh.

I,ll do more digging I think, but now its between the Minimed and the Vibe, Ive just let out a laugh as I thought all of this was easy to choose from. Ive had a few problems the past few weeks and didnt give this alot of thought.

I'm on my first pump and I went for the Medtronic 640g,it is waterproof,has a colour screen.I can't compare it with any other pump as it is my first pump and I choose with advice of my DSN and I am more than happy with this pump.Prior to selecting my pump I did a tremendous amount of research into my choices.
 
I have chosen the omnipod, it is definitely more expensive to get the pods but when it comes to my health I don't care about cost. I should be set up with it by mid October. I am so excited. I have been trying for 5 years to get one. Now I have a Dr who understand it is life changing for me.

We have a National health system in the UK so money has to be spent wisely, and over 4 years the cost of the pods is more than double tubed pumps. Hence why very few have them, basically in the UK you have a pod then that means another person can't pump unless a very good deal has been set up with the pump company.

@CarbsRok, it's not quite as bad as that. Based on the private costs of the pumps, the Omnipod is only 50% more expensive per annum over four years (and we have to look at it that way as the tubed pumps are much more expensive up front and need to be amortised over the four year period). If you were to look at it on that basis, then everyone would be given either the Dana R or the Medtronic 640g, as those two are substantially the cheapest per year over the four year period, based on the most popular consumables.

The analogy you have used here is rather unfair and not quite correct @CarbsRok.

The annual cost of using a Omnipod Pump over other tubed pumps is £300 (or less depending on the buying power of the Trust), so over a 4 year warranty period your talking about £1200 tops, this based on someone who changes their Pod every 3 days as opposed to someone who has a higher TDD and may change the Pod every 2 days.

I am very happy with my Insight.

The only issue I have had is the rapid battery depletion at the end of life and Roche replaced the pump the next day with no quibbles.

It's easy to use day to day, easy to set up initially and the bolus adviser is excellent.

I've only used this and the CellNovo, but I would happily recommend the Insight to anyone.
 
think after looking into them I,ll be choosing the minimed as it has what I need from the pump, I thank you all for the input :bookworm:
 
Ahhhh, since I posted this I have been looking into them more and have been doing the traning on the insight, so back to being confused hahaha. I still have plenty of time as the first step on getting any of them is not till the 12th on October
