O M Gosh ... Just watching the TV ..something about shopping on the cheap ..and they showed the eat well plate ..this is the first time I have seen the plate and no wonder the UK has a weight problem ... Who in their right mind would eat that amount of carbs with a dinner ! Shame on you NHS ...
What was your first impression about the so called eat well plate ?

This is what the NHS says about Carbs
Starchy foods are a good source of energy and the main source of a range of nutrients in our diet.

As well as starch, they contain fibre, calcium, iron and B vitamins.

Some people think starchy foods are fattening, but gram for gram they contain fewer than half the calories of fat. Just watch out for the added fats used when you cook and serve them: this is what increases the calorie content.

and this is there misguided fat statement http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pages/Fat.aspx

So, because I don't eat their recommendations, I should be really ill or dead!

Quite the reverse. Thanks to ignoring their really bad advice!

They talk out of their bums....they really don't have a clue. If I hadn't found this site I would be happily munching on that healthy plate rubbish and be in for some very bad news further down the line

May be we are all in purgatory as we all died for not eating the eatwell :wacky:

I saw the programme it was about a vegetarian family none who were diabetic or even overweight so no reason for them to restrict anything

My point was no one should be eating that amount of carbs ... It was my first time I had seen the eat well plate and was as a vegetarian horrified at the size of carb for the plate ...I never ate that amount ever ... Maybe that's why I only became diabetic after the dsn ordered me to eat more carbs.
Edit to add ... I think it wrong to tell people they are eating healthy with so many carbs showing on that plate ..it's wrong on all levels

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that but I do not understand why you think that eating a lot of carbs is wrong for people or do you just mean wrong for diabetics which of course I do agree with but I do not believe eating a lot of carbs causes it
I was always a very low sugar and starchy carb eater never liked rice pasta bread pastries or cakes and have never been over weight yet I am prediabetic so there must be more to it than eating carbs

I posted this in the general chat area .. so it was not focused completely on diabetic blood sugars .. it was just pointing out the vast amount of carbs the NHS are telling people in general to eat. Remembering that carbs turn to sugar when eaten for everyone ..not just diabetics .. and the gov are shouting that this country has an obesity epidemic .. telling people to stop eating sugar ... so if carbs = sugar why tell people to eat so many carbs.
The program was the first time I had seen the eat well plate .. I did not watch the program as I was not interested in shopping for less or what the family were eating .. it was just where I had seen the eat well plate

I didn't watch it as I was put off by the family the previous week. They were buying more expensive sliced cheese as they found it too much effort to slice their own. I was grumpy that the licence fee was being used to help lazy idiots :blackeye:
