Hi
Just wondering how many here also live with other conditions that require a modified diet?
I'm sticking to a interstitial cystitis diet which means I have low acid foods. But so far that means I can't eat a lot of what I used to eat to manage my diabetes very well. I don't eat processed or smoked meats/fish, citrus, tomatoes, vinegars, most dressings, soy, most beverages, artificial sweeteners, most fruit, some veggies, chillies, etc. So I've had to adjust my meals and all that. On top of that I have a number of GI issues so textures of food can cause me a lot of pain. The last time I ate a steak when i was out I was in pain for days. So I tend to make sure meat is tender or it is minced so I can eat it.
But what I'm saying here is that it is quite hard trying to manage BGL's and manage the other symptoms I get. I find I can't seem to keep everything happy. Are there others here experiencing the same or something similar?

Hi @Mep
I too have a restricted food list, in my case because I have had most of my large gut taken away. This means I can't digest most vegetables, legumes and, in fact, anything moderate/ High in fibre. I have found, however, that the low carbohydrate high fat diet that many of us posters on here follow suits me very well indeed. I drink water and tea only and enjoy meats, fish, eggs, cheese ( & nuts in moderation) and feel full of energy and really well. Following this diet also brought my blood glucose levels down to normal within days. It's just a matter of getting used to a new way of eating. Browse the threads on food & diet here, you're sure to find lots of inspiration. Good luck!

I have severe Exocrine Pancreatic Deficiency which means my body cannot digest and absorb fats, protein and carbohydrates. It causes major vitamin deficiency and makes diabetes management a nightmare! Putting weight on is impossible and its contributed to severe osteoporosis and neuropathy. It also makes me prone to infections. Saying that, I take enzyme replacements with food, get B12 and vit D treatment. Have been managing it for 15 years now and its amazing what you get used to! Apart from the odd hospitalisation for malnutrition over the years I lead a fairly normal active life!! Sue xxx

thanks for your responses :) Are you both on insulin as well?
No, I'm on 1 x 40mg of Gliclazide per day working towards becoming diet and exercise controlled only. I was on Metformin for 9plus years but after last gut op couldn't cope with side effects. Turned out well for me though as I found this forum, started lchf diet and my blood sugar levels dropped to normal range very quickly. Lots of folks here are on Insulin @Mep there are specific threads re diet for type 2 with insulin as well as type 1 or you can always ask any question and someone in the community will answer.

thanks very much ladies :) I'm on insulin because I have to be... hardly produce my own anymore. I'm not type 1 or type 1.5 though... just been type 2 for a while. I'll have a look for those threads.

If you click on Type 2 Diabetes on the main forum page you'll see - right at the top- a sticky thread " type 2 with insulin" x
