hi guys, iv noticed my bloods have been more often than not between 6.5-6.7 b4 meals, where as for a good few weeks they were in the 5s, the only thing I think I eating differently is I'm having about 30 g salted peanuts, they say 1.4g carbs per 30gr so thought they would b ok?? Should I not b eating salted peanuts?

Hi amanda19640,in moderation and the golden rule...if it spikes ..cut it out or cut it down

I find that almonds and walnuts don't spike my blood @amanda19640 I eat up to 7 almonds or 5 walnut halves with a 1/2oz cube of cheese for a snack. If you eat them really slowly they are quite satisfying. Hope that helps? X

Yes iv always eaten them since diagnosis, but when I discovered salted peanuts were low thought id b ok but looks doubtful!! Thanks for reply

Sometimes portion (size) creep can be a pain - especially with things we like. Are you eating more these days, either generally, or specifically the peanuts?

Otherwise, try, say a week, when you swap the nuts out and a piece of cheese in. If it makes a material difference, you might have some clues.

What about your general food consumption, is it going up/down or changing in any way?

My bloods go up a bit (due to increased incidences of liver dump) when I go too low carb. Clearly that only shows on a snapshot finger prick tests, as there would be associated lows, but all worth considering of it concerns you.

That's interesting thanks, do think I'm going longer between meals

Salt can be good, or bad, and can be a personal thing.
If the only thing you're doing differently is salted peanuts, it's either the salt, or the peanuts.
Or then again, with diabetes, it could simply be a change in condition.
Bit if you change one thing at a time, at least you'll get an idea what is making a difference.

Yes that's true thanks.

Southport gp only recommends almond and walnuts? They have zero GI.
Peanuts have a GI of 15 and more carbs hence not the best option in quantity.
D.
carbs in peanuts 16 grms/100 grams

Wow that's the culprit then!! Thanks

I do cashews (salted) and they do nothing to me. Pity they cost as much as they do.

@amanda19640 never thought to tag you too about Lidl's loose salted nuts - not as good as salted peanuts but maybe would suit you as a substitute?
