Reactive Hypoglycaemia

Are they checking your BP?

I don't think they are looking beyond the two hour diagnosis of diabetes!

Sorry, but I've been through this sort of thing!
They can't see the wood for the trees!

No I agree Nosher it's like they blindly follow a path whatever. I'm seeing head honcho on Thursday at our practice, he writes for the Sunday papers so is an authority but no idea what side he will come down on xx

Edited to remove name of professional.

I don't think the healthcare professional waited two hours I checked my phone as soon as I came out of her room and it was 10.30 and she took my blood again at10.15. Just done it again and it is 10.1! Under the level of diabetes diagnosis on a GTT. I'm now a bit grumpy :(

13.1 at two hours from mid 5s, even a jump of 8 points after the 2 hours that indicetes that is not normal type two diagnosis. As I missed the head honcho name(****!) You will have to be prepared for the appointment.

Thanks Brun don't worry I'll take my chances and see what happens I just hope I get thru it ok. Just scared of collapsing again like I did in the restaurant
More than anything x
How did it go this morning? How are you feeling now? Did you test yourself or leave them to it?

I've just tried to work out and @Brunneria could help me out here, as my conversion may be a little out!

The only thing after the time you spent at the test is that you do have high enough blood glucose level to be diagnosed prediabetic and insulin resistant!

I know, but there are clues to why, the test should be looked at different.
First, the normal fasting blood!
Second, the abnormal quick spike!
Third, the twitch, which as you said @Linagirl is symptomatic of your levels dropping.
Fourth, your history of feeling hypo after more than the tests length!

If you have your food diary record, this will help this so called expert to do more tests than the obligatory two hours OGTT!

My understanding is that anything over 11 at 2 hours is considered diabetic.

They may want to just call you diabetic and forget about the RH at this point - in which case, keep pushing!

Especially since you were low carbing before your test, so the spike and recovery may have been delayed, and without that delay you could easily have dropped below the 11 at 2 hours.

Even if they don't accept this, it is perfectly possible to have both T2 and RH at the same time. I do.

It just means that my spikes are longer, and the hypo comes later.

GTT
Fasting 5.9
Post 1/2 hour 14.4
Post 1 hour 17.7
Post 1.5 hours 14.7
Post 1.75 hours 13.1
Post 2 hours 10. 1
Post 2.5 hours 9.7
Post 3 hours 7.9 ( having eaten bacon egg mushrooms and tomato)

Thought it might be clearer to see if I pasted all my values.

Thanks so much for all your help. Surely though if I was truly diabetic my sugar would go back up after eating whatever I ate. And it doesn't explain me collapsing after a carb loaded meal xx

Thanks Brun I will try and do some more research before seeing him x

Your fasting blood is definitely normal and your spike is abnormal, that gives clues, keep pushing as Brun says.

Keep an eye out through the day.

Forgot to add, though your fasting is normal, your were probably anxious which could have put it up a couple of percentage points!

It wasn't that bad was it?;)

No, if you eat low carb your bloods stay around the normal levels.

The carb loaded meal shot your bloods up very quickly, and the drop was quick as well!
You collapsed because of the drop, it was your body's defence against the expected hypo.
The reactive part of RH, is the spike, the quick use of glucose, the excess insulin, the drop to hypo and eventually collapsing.
Hope this clears that for you!

Had a co yo when my blood was at 4 and went on a very short walk with my son and by the time I got back I was 3.1. Have just eaten a small apple and shakes have eased a little.

Defo RH, with what's happened!
A pity the docs haven't seen that!

Relax and keep your bloods in normal levels if you can.
