Reactive Hypoglycaemia

Hi Lina,
I have two, one is a Roche and uses frightfully expensive tapes, the other which I really like is a Codefree and you can get a complete kit from Amazon for £12.99, this includes the meter, lancet and some strips.

I use it a lot and get 100 test strips at a time and they are reasonably priced.

I've had mine for over a decade and I get my strips, on prescription!
With my doctors approval and my consultants insistence!

Why not ask tomorrow @Linagirl when you see your doctor.
Hope you are prepared and ready to ask questions!

I'm shattered tonight so I will get everything written up in the morning. My other half has printed off the Wikipedia page for me. I have joined a face book page and wished I hadn't! It's all doom and gloom. Basically all saying well it's a precursor to diabetes and you may as well accept it type messages! Not willing to accept it and determined to whatever my body will allow to try Nd resolve it!

Don't do facebook!
They wouldn't know what a blood glucose disorder is never mind how to treat one!

Unfriend them all or is it defriend them!

I have accu check and just been given an agamatrix jazz on prescription. They're about the same accuracy wise.

I think accu check are £14 for 50 on ebay and agamatrix £10 but harder to come by. Pharmacy charge alot more.

Yeah think I will thanks nosher it is just too depressing!

I have a freestyle lite and they are 26.00 for fifty and getting through lots. Will see what doctor says tomorrow. Thanks again.

I use the SD Codefree.
£7ish for 50 strips. cheaper if bought in bulk using discount code
Meter for £14ish
available from amazon or ebay or the manufacturer.

I don't think it is as reliable as the more expensive ones, but all I REALLY need to know is whether I am in the zone or not. and it is great for that.

I would be very careful buying from ebay, unless you know it is coming from a reputable seller.
Some diabetics who get strips on prescription sell unused stips on ebay - which I think is immoral, because they are basically defrauding the NHS by making a profit on their prescriptions. Plus you need to check their Use By date, and you will never know whether they have been kept in the correct temperature. If they have (for example) been left on a sunny windowsill, they are useless.

Hi all,

Just to let you know that my endocrinologist appointment went great.
In fact he is so happy with how I'm doing, my next appointment is in six months.

My consultant didn't greet me as usual, he had his computer screen on a particular page on how patient A and patient B has achieved no hypoglycaemic episodes since the trial started with my meds. The consultant explained that the use of the meds has far exceeded expectations and has been in contact and in private discussions with the pharmaceutical company and they have announced because of my tests to do a wider more scientific study with a larger group of patients.
The paper on my condition and the diagnosis and prognosis will be published soon!
The consultant has had a few meetings with other health authorities and is expected to be part of a study group on how to treat various blood group disorders and in particular pregnancy!
He told me that I will still go hypo with the meds, but my spike is significantly less and my 'late' reaction is now later! And less effective, but because I am now so hypo aware, that getting over the hypo was worse.
But and he agreed that it was my lifestyle that prevents the hypos, just that the meds had significantly helped in my general health.
Again, he asked me to up my carbs and stay just above ketosis, and try and just be sensible.
Ketosis is a grey area for him and he will look at the long term affects on people in general and in particular cases like mine. He also said that fasting is another area he will look at for me. He was surprised when I told him I was fasting once a week for roughly between 24 & 36 hours depending on sleep. He was certain that 12 hour fasts are good and encouraged me to do them rather than the longer ones, he will look into the longer fasts for blood glucose disorders but where will he look? As you know, our condition is only just being recognised by endocrinologist recently, everything I've found is as outdated as diabetes advice is, it's roughly the same.
Everything is fine, no bloods taken, BP normal and I've lost another 3lb!
It doesn't sound like much but I am steadily losing weight and unless I lose it quickly, it will be a while till I meet my consultants optimum weight, but I'm happy and he's happy and life goes on! Hey ho!

My specialist has spoken personally to my named GP, to make sure that he is following his directions on how and what my treatment entails and my care with diabetic and blood tests!
I am so special!!!
I'm weird!

He wants me to try rye bread??? Only half a slice with my evening meal!
Anyone know any I could try and is it expensive?

That's is brilliant Nosher so pleased for you. How much weight have you lost overall now?

I had a great appointment with my GP who has agreed not to put me on metformin and is going to refer me to your guy as I said he is making ground breaking strides in this disorder. So happy :) he said he will fall of his perch if I have had a stroke which from a guy with his experience makes me feel incredibly positive.

He is also going to test me again for vit d to see how I am doing.

Are you happy?

Bet you are?

It sounds as if your doc was receptive to your arguments and your history.

Only five stone (ish) in total!

Happy days!

Hi guys,
I have a list of so many things wrong with me I doubt I will try to get officially diagnosed with RH.
Suffice to say I have stopped RH dead by cutting carbs and I hope to bring my GGT down by following a low carb diet.

Really happy and such a positive result getting referred to your guy! Sounds like he is really on to something it's amazing to be in it at such an Early stage and you and Brun are beacons of light to someone who felt like their world was crashing down only four weeks ago :) thanks so so much
