    Rebound after hypo

No do not take any more insulin to correct your blood sugar. You shouldn't take correction doses for 18-24hrs following a hypo. I know it's hard when your blood sugar is so high but taking a correction dose will most likely lead to another hypo, and the cycle continues. Make sure you are...

Type 1 with hypothyroidism; how to lose weight??

This worries me as I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid recently but docs are waiting for some reaso before putting me on meds. My understanding is that when your thyroid levels are corrected by Levo your symptoms (including weight gain) will disappear. Have you had your thyroid function...

    addicted!

I had a bad addiction to diet coke. Was drinking about 6L a week easily. Decided to stop drinking them because I always had a dry mouth in between drinking them and I know the chemicals in it just can't be good for you. After stopping drinking diet coke I had a 5 day headache- just shows its not...

    Underactive thyroid

Sorry that this isn't specifically diabetic related but I can't find an active forum anywhere for people suffering with hypothyroidism Background of the story: Have been fighting very hard to lose weight since May 2012. I have lost 24lb altogether, but since about October time it has been...

    Type 1 and liver problems

Hi I am 23yo diagnosed 10.5yrs ago. For the past 2-3yrs my liver function tests have been showing raised levels of bilirubin. The rest of the levels they test for when looking at liver function have always been fine and so the doctor says this is something called Gilbert's syndrome, and is...

Good Carb Counting app for iPhone ?

I agree with above posts. I used to use carbs and cals app and it's very simple to use. However, I now use myfitnesspal all the time because I'm tracking my food on there. It's a really good one to use for carb counting especially when eating out a lot of the time they have the nutritional...

Fasting blood sugar test at GP?

Thanks for your replies. I've never had fasting bloods before and a few years ago was told my cholesterol was at the higher end of normal! So maybe that wasn't so accurate after all. Thanks guys :)

Fasting blood sugar test at GP?

I have been diabetic for 10 years now an mostly I am under the care of the consultant at my hospital. However I have recently switched GPs and they suggested I have a few appointments with them as I never get to see the consultant due to long waiting lists. I received my appointment the other...

    5k help

I always make sure my blood sugars are a bit higher before starting exercise. I like them to be about 11 or 12. After a 45-60min work out by BS falls to about 4-5. Take some jelly babies or fruit pastilles. Much easier to eat than yucky glucose tablets. That said I don't run outside very much...

    Rude Diabetes Nurses

Yes I know exactly what you mean. That's very unfortunate about the nurse you're talking about but at least she recognised her heart wasn't in it any more- there are too many nurses who become bitter and don't care enough. I haven't had much contact with DSNs since leaving paediatric team and...

Insulin not working to bring sugar levels down!?

I agree - its happened to me many times and so I load up on the insulin and all of a sudden it hits me all at once with a hypo. Its hard because I hate being high but the best thing to do is give your usual correction dose and then wait it out. Go for a walk, sometimes that helps to bring it...

    Diabetic nurse advise to me

It is quite a jump to half your insulin like that so I agree with post above- maybe try a different ratio. Also, it is correct that you shouldn't give corrections 18-24hours following a hypo. This is because it can lead to more hypos and then hypers, then more corrections lead to more hypos, etc...

    What's good about your treatment?

I consider the care I have to be pretty poor to be honest. Long waiting lists with hospital teams mean I see doctors 12-18months apart. However, one thing my consultant did do is refer me to a dietician. My BS were so uncontrolled and they didn't really know what todo with me. The last option...

reaction times on low blood sugars

As said above, you should not give a correction following hypo. I have been advised no correction doses for 18-24 hours. I don't know how it works if you are on a pump. Also, I have been told you only need 50ml of lucozade and then wait 10 minutes before retesting to see f it's come up. THEN if...
