    Exercising for the first time

Thank you to everyone for your advice. I really appreciate it. As it turns out I was pushing myself too hard to begin with and injured my knees. A trip to the doctor revealed that my posture isn't right - hence the injury. Undeterred, I've now joined the gym and have been recommended...

    Exercising for the first time

Hi all, In an effort to look after myself and do all I can to avoid future complications, I’ve decided to start exercising. I’m effectively a total beginner. I played competitive sports (badly) when I was very young but haven’t really done anything since I was about 10 years old. I’ve...

Hi Paul, Yes, I do use Lantus - have you been given any advice from your specialist about this? Bex

    Exhaustion - is it me?

@ Squire Fulwood - by my partner. He was the only one who saw me in the months prior. It is still very difficult to come to terms with that. And I went to the GP 3 times during those 5 months (and got new glasses) only to be told there was nothing wrong with me. I ended up self-diagnosing...

    Exhaustion - is it me?

Hi all, I'll keep this brief - I was diagnosed as a Type 1 in January this year while living overseas. For the past 2.5 weeks I've had people visiting me and I've been out with them each night after work (sightseeing/dinner etc). I've been having an amazing time but I'm completely and...

    Fluctuating eyesight - advice?

Thanks for the advice Noblehead - but Specsavers is actually where I went last time. Perhaps I should try a different branch as the normal one I go to has struggled to do fairly simple things like adjust my glasses. And just curious, what do you consider 'under control' for the purposes of...

    Fluctuating eyesight - advice?

Hi all, I was diagnosed as a Type 1 in January 2013 and have been having a lot of trouble with my eyesight and was wondering whether anyone had some advice? I’ve worn classes since 2007. In the months leading up to diagnosis I started having blurred vision and dizziness on a daily basis and...

    First overseas trip since diagnosis

Hi guys, Tomorrow I'm heading off on my first overseas holiday since diagnosis and was wondering whether you had any tips for me as I'm a bit nervous! For example, I have organised a hospital letter and have made sure I've got a back-up supply of equipment. Do you tend to take food with you...

    Hypo

Hi Dannii, I was diagnosed as Type 1 in January (I'm 24) and have experienced a lot of hypos since diagnosis. My typical symptoms start with a very weird sensation in my arms and legs, followed by shaking hands which get progressively uncontrollable, then sweating and feeling sick. Once...

    First post-diagnosis HbA1c!

Thanks for all of the positive comments guys. I know there is definitely room for improvement because my results are peppered with quite a lot of hypos and a few really high readings so it's not ideal but I'm getting there :). I can't expect perfection though and I'm sure that is something...

    Lantus without food

@n1v3r. I spoke to my GP this morning and he confirmed that you do not need to have your lantus with food. He said that even if you're not eating you MUST still take the lantus. I hope that helps. Bec

    First post-diagnosis HbA1c!

Hi all, I just wanted to share the result of my first HbA1c with you all because I'm pretty excited and nobody else I know can share my enthusiasm! I was diagnosed type 1 on 25 January this year (at age 24). At diagnosis my HbA1c was measured at 130 (or 14%). Today I've just had my 3 month...

    Lantus without food

Hi all, I'm a 24 year old newly diagnosed type 1. I am currently taking 12 units of lantus with my breakfast along with novorapid (between 2-10 units) at breakfast, lunch and dinner. This morning I was feeling unwell and didn't want to eat anything but knew that I had to take my lantus (I'm...
