    Try eating more fish, and kelp supplements can help reduce cholesterol, better with fish though.

    81 year old father diagnosed with type 2

    Well my thoughts would be, let him get on with his life. I met an 83 yr old gent in the pub the other n8ght on his 3rd pint, he looked well and walked well. He was on a load of tablets, but was happy to let whatever happen, happen.

    Type 2 I have lost the self confidence in cooking meals. I don't know what to do.

    Have a look at diet doctor, lots of recipes on there. Easy to make smaller meals, if it's for 4, halve the ingredients, then you have 2 meals.

    Would it be worth it?

    Do be careful fasting, you need to monitor your glucose levels, I fasted overnight and didn't eat until 5pm, my readings were 3.5 so hypoglycemic levels.

    Avocado is a very good fat, olive oil on salads, more Mediterranean diet really.

    Have a look at diet doctor, really good site for low carb meal plans, and do test. When you start to eat and 2 hours after, you will get an idea of what foods make your glucose levels go up.
