    cholesterol advice with low carbing

been low carbing for almost 2 years since diagnosis. Lost five and a half stone (plus an extra two that I lost before diagnosis) so down to 10.5 from almost 18 stone. I'm 44 (as of yesterday!) my 4 hba1cs since losing weight have been 36, 31, 36 and 35 (last week). Total cholesterol has been...

been called to see the practice nurse following blood test ...

ok got my readings ... hdl is 1.9, ldl is 3.5 so overall 5.4 which is why I was called in. Means my ratio is 3. Triglycerides are ok too. She was pushing me to a statin or a low fat diet. Tried to tell me 35 was on the low side for hba1c. I've declined the pills but she wants me back in 3...

blood check wasn't fasting. Will see how it goes this evening. To be honest I'm just so relieved that it wasn't about my hba1c I can deal with the rest of it!

been called to see the practice nurse following blood test ...

ooh thank you for that info ... I don't know what the current level is till I see the nurse tomorrow ... last time (October) it was 4.9 - which was up on the previous six months reading - although they made the point that it was up as my 'good' cholesterol had increased ... I think they were...

been called to see the practice nurse following blood test ...

... was worried as I felt I'd slipped a little off the wagon ... but turns out my hba1c is actually down (just 1 point to 35) yay! So it's my cholesterol they're calling me back about ... last time it was 4.9 and they keep telling me it should be under 4 if you're diabetic. I know they'll now...

    Hair loss

I lost a lot of hair around diagnosis, and it's all clearly growing back now. I researched it and it was suggested it could be hormonal imbalance, insulin is after all a hormone

What foods do you miss most

do you know what I miss? It's not a particular food, it's the lack of spontaneity ... the feeling like I have to plan, bake, create, check restaurant menus in advance, feeling cheated that it's a 3 course special so I'm paying for a pudding I won't eat (lots of work functions are arranged this...

How to say no to sweet treats

you're right ... I'm diet controlled at the moment too - did about 9 months on metformin then came off it a year ago ... my parents and brother are also type 2 ... dad and brother on maximum meds and eat what ever they feel like most of the time ... sometimes finding the will power to do it my...

How to say no to sweet treats

someone at work's husband is type 2, she insists on telling me I can eat things which I decline ... like chocolate. The guy I work most closely with offered me celebrations and chips off his plate yesterday, a croissant on Thursday ... he just doesn't get it ...

    Confused by GP over reversal

Thanks Trotskyite, that makes a lot of sense to me ... I did get to the point I thought I was invincible ... went to florida last Easter and ate cake and pudding (it was my birthday!) and tested and the readings were fine, but I think the weight creeping back is the key - so I'm back on the...

    Confused by GP over reversal

hi Shelley I think I've had a similar experience to you. Diagnosed at 16 stone in April 2012. Lost a considerable amount of weight (about 5.5 stone) and in Feb 2013 Dr took me off metformin. Hba1c had been 36 (5.4%) in Oct 2012 and 3 months after no medication I was at 31 (5.1% I think)...
