My understanding from what I've read is that muscle loss isn't occurring until you're under 4% body fat. The body will burn fat first as that's the way our system is designed and fat is readily available.
Just a question on bone broth - what is the purpose of that? Is it to take in some sodium or are other nutritional needs met? Instead of bone broth can a commercially available chicken or beef broth be substituted?
Hi JoKalsbeek. Boost is just a temporary meal replacement while I do a VLCD then I'll go to a low carb style of eating.
Thanks for the advice and don't hesitate to share your thoughts. That's why I'm here - to learn from people who know more about this than I.
I cheated last night and broke every rule. We ordered pizza and as they were busy the order arrived at midnight.
I checked my blood this morning expecting very high results and got a reading of 4.1.
I'm pretty happy with that but am continuing with the VLCD for another three weeks just to be...
I was diagnosed with Type 2 a few weeks ago. I knew it was coming eventually. The really ironic bit is that before I recently retired I managed health care food services. Duh!
My doctor sent me to a group diabetes education session at the local hospital where (I kid you not) a participant...

Think about it this way - the diet is less boring than dialysis ;)
Very much so - yours is a great story of what can be accomplished.
I'm going with gradual reintroduction of foods focusing on veggies and lean protein (such as fish) by staging meals. For example I'll only eat lunch for a week...
Don't beat yourself up - we all do it. I knew I had prediabetes last year but still carried on as usual until I got the diagnoses a while back. The key is to use the bad news as a trigger to change your diet permanently.
Good plan based on my results. I started VLCD a few weeks ago and as of...
That is the challenge. Also I like European style pizza. But France also has no shortage of healthy food and small portions are the norm. I have no excuse to fall off the wagon.
Thanks Daisy1 for the information. I've found a wealth of information so far on the forum especially on the path I've chosen. For example on the VLCD make sure I get some oil to prevent gallstones - very useful!
I tend to stick to evidence based information. If there isn't a peer reviewed...
