Chronic itching - Could it be neuropathy?

Hi @Introverted_And_Proud As @Pipp said, we can't diagnose. We can describe experiences though. I know my T1 mother ended up with severe eczema after decades of T1 (many in pre glucomter years so not well controlled). There was no suggestion it was specifically neuropathy related? T1...

Insulin and self medication in hospital

I had two pregnancies, one appendix and one broken leg in UK hospitals (all pre 1999). I self managed my insulin throughout, though the first pregnancy had me briefly on an insulin line after a hypo during a failed induction. I found the NHS very supportive of T1s self managing their diabetes...

No need to repeat what Hospital already does

To give a slightly different perspective, I Iive in New Zealand and while my diabetes care (pump etc) is done by the hospital, my GP does regular diabetic checks (hba1c, feet etc). I am lucky to get a hospital appointment every 2 years, so I do need the GP checks.... (Last hospital...

    Help needed

Welcome to the DCUK forums @Stephen PunnA . Not sure about the volterol but pain and stress is well known for pushing up blood sugar levels. Do you also have a glucometer? Cgms can be inaccurate if you are much out of range.... They can also read low if you lie on them at night....

    Difficulty with Doctor

Thinking outside the box here - could you change to Dexcom?

    Dex g7

I was a g6 user for several years before the g7 and prefer the g7 - much shorter warm up time and a 12 hour grace period after the sensor ends.

Which forum to post in for MODY questions?

Welcome to the forums @OminousPetroleum (very creative username by the way). In my limited understanding, one issue with MODY is that it's a catch all term for a number of different metabolic conditions caused by a gene mutation, so people with different types of MODY need different treatments...

    Blood tests

16 mmol/L is 16 x 18 = 288mg/dL )Just multiply by 18). However I believe that you should be able to toggle the machine to read in mmol/L rather than mg/dL http://push.i-sens.com/smartlog2/2.1.1/UserManual_en.pdf Go to 3.8c above and it shows you how to change the glucose units in the...

Type 1 diabetics, have you ever experienced this?

Hmm, 57 years of T1, 2 years on a tandem. Some lipohypertrophy on my lower left stomach, but I don't inject or cannulise (Is that a word?) near there. I find that if my bg goes over about 10 I can get much more insulin resistant ie a ratio of 1 unit to 1mmol/L instead of 1 to 3.... This...

Newly diagnosed going on long haul flight. Looking for advice

Not much we can advise till we know your diabetes type. If T1 then I am guessing that you'll be put on insulin, and you'll need advice from your doctor on whether you are yet safe to travel. (Long term there is no issue, but it may be tricky if you aren't stable yet. Neither heat nor changes...

    Numbers

Hi @Jack64 . You posted in the T1 forum, are you T1 and on insulin? If so I can confirm that insulin needs can rise unexpectedly and dramatically if you are unwell and extra insulin may be needed. Your health team should have given you a sick day plan for insulin dosing when ill? If you...

Just diagnosed - Your test results showed signs of diabetic maculopathy

I can understand why you are panicking but there is a reason we get annual eye checks as diabetics, and it's because problems get caught and monitored and treated (if necessary) before you run into trouble. Diabetic eye specialists have had decades to work out how to preserve our vision and...

    Terrible terrible diabetic "dad" jokes

What do you call a very evil being with very high blood sugars ? Diabolic. What do you call a slightly evil being with a fatty liver and insulin resistance? Prediabolic. (Courtesy of my non-diabetic husband and dad of our two children.)

    New number

Well you get a congrats from me. Generally my doctors have been quite supportive (and believe me my diabetes control has had major swings over the decades) but suspect they are too busy to do anything but the bare minimum these days. I'm now in New Zealand and view my results online ...

    New number

So what happens if you are on medications such as insulin which you will die without? Are there drop in clinics? (Sorry to go off topic, will understand if this post gets deleted/moved, but am always interested in medical systems in countries I have not lived in.)
